Just giving an opinion! Me being a reputable breeder doesn't need the internet to sell puppies for show. In fact...I wouldn't sell a show dog without "FIRST" knowing the person personally, knowing their intentions and doing a total screen. I would have no clue what my dogs would be doing in another country. JMHO.

I completely understand! Then maybe you can help point me in the right direction? I am somebody that does not have ANY yorkie friends. My family and friends oo's and aw's at my little MiMi, but they dont know a thing about dogs and breeding. So I have little to start from and even less to learn from.

I'd start out by attending local shows in your area. Go watch the yorkies in the ring and start talking to the exhibitors and gaining their trust. When I started out I didn't have any yorkie friends either. I started by attending the dog shows and then joined a local yorkie club. In my opinion it takes some time to get the right yorkie for you. There will be show exhibitors and breeders that will be happy to mentor you just find the shows in your area and get started there. I hope this helps.

Well I can go to local shows in my area, I am shy and I would feel odd just walking up to people and introducing myself while they were busy trying to show their dogs. I could try and catch the ones I like after the shows? How do I start up a convo? Sorry such a silly questions, but I have a hard time talking to people I dont know.

While I could understand not feeling comfortable advertising your babies on the internet (i might take that route as well, I will probably just place puppies with people I know and family), but how do you feel about buying from breeders that advertise on the net, would ever buy from them or you think I should stay clear?

I guess i just feel really intimidated by others since I have read and heard that show breeders can be a little...eh....not so nice. I am a nice person and want to make some yorkie friends, but its hard when you heard so much negative. I am sure there are nice breeders out there that dont mind helping.

There are lots of YT people here in California, maybe I could meet up with them and maybe hang out at a show with them so they can point out things for me and be there if I have questions?

You would go up to the exhibitors "AFTER" they show LOL And you're not asking silly questions at all...attend several shows first watch the yorkies in the ring figure out what kind of yorkie you like. Just watch for awhile until you feel comfortable approaching someone. Some show breeders can be mean but once you prove yourself wanting to do this and committing yourself you'll gain their trust. I'm a nice person LOL. I love to talk yorkies but again I'm still considered new even after showing just 4 years but I wouldn't sell a show yorkie to anyone yet because I don't feel comfortable doing it since I am still trying to develop my own eye for a good show dog. Until I know I feel confident in my own choices with my own breeding then only will I sell a show dog but to only those I know. I would never buy from online. I have certain breeders I would buy from anyway and they don't advertise their dogs for sale on the internet or paper.
I hope this helps in some way. Feel free to ask anything and I'll try and answer the best way I can.

Thanks for the advice! I've already checked when the next specialty Yorkie show in La will be, its not until Oct 08. But I dig around and try to find some in other areas that I can travel to. Thank god my hubby is so understanding and willing, he is ok with traveling with me so I have that on my side! He loves the dogs too! You should hear him baby talk to MiMi LOL!

My hubby loves the dogs too! I have too many so he can't travel with me because someone has to stay home with them LOL. It's nice to hear you are willing to wait and attend shows. Do more reading and homework and when the time is right you will find the right yorkie for you. I know some it's taken over 2 years for their first show dog so it will take patience. I was lucky it didn't take me that long. I love showing it's a passion of mine. I would rather show than breed that's for sure but alas I feel I have to breed for that next show dog! I love this breed so that I'm willing and was willing to do whatever necessary to do what is right for the breed.

Where are you from? I know there is a show in the LA area this weekend that Mardelin (Mary), my breeder/mentor/friend will be attending. If you would like, I'll try to get the info from her or see if I can reach her and have her fill you in. She's wonderful to talk to and as you might have noticed, very informative.
Glad to see Donna is also helping. She is also very helpful and quite nice..(Now don't go and get a big head, Donna. lol)

Oh please do let me know the info for this show! I would LOVE LOVE to go! I am from the Mojave Desert area, about 2 hours away from LA, but I am willing to drive and I am quite used to it actually. I have to drive a good distance to even get my groceries lol.

Sure...the name of the kennel is Smilain / breeder SMIRNOVA Marina
she is here #3 http://www.sweetyblue.com/sweety/Pri.../Challenge.asp
I also talk to Mini Shop's breeder and Kochav Ha-Carmel's breeder and many more in different forum and on the phone, but most of them don't speak English very well...

I posted the question about the kennel you are thinking about getting the dog. I'll keep you posted.
