Almost losing hope in adopting... Hi, I have been looking through the internet as well as local rescues and shelters for a up to 3 years old, 5 lbs male yorkie to adopt. I have been trying to get a companion for my mother's 3 1/2 year old 5 lbs yorkie who is spayed and scared of dogs bigger than her. I have lost count on how many applications I have sent to rescues and shelters, and how many rescues and shelters I have contacted. We get rejected just because we live in Puerto Rico and honestly I don't understand why.

I am checking rescues and shelters all around the US, but I don't even know if they are considering that Puerto Rico is US territory. We are not in continental US, but we are still part of it. Still as soon as I say we are in PR they say no.

Yes, we are more than willing to pay the expenses of picking the pup up, the adoption fee and we also spare no expense when it comes to Nala's health and we would do the same for the new pup. I also have two dogs and one is a rescue from PR and they are my babies so whatever has to be paid for their well being it is paid. My mom taught me that. We are willing to go through any type of necessary inspection if needed.

| Many rescues won't adopt out to locations where they can't do a home visit. And some will only adopt to their rescue's zip code or very close surrounding areas. Some only adopt out to their residing state. I've seen some pretty strict guidelines (we've adopted two Yorkies from rescue groups) when it comes to rescues. They just want to ensure the dog's well-being. Most places won't ship rescue dogs because they've usually been through a lot of trauma in their life and shipping an already scared dog wouldn't be in its best interest. Don't give up hope though, perhaps you can find one who understands your circumstances and location. Best wishes to you.

He's going to be so loved and spoiled that I really hope he loves it here in Puerto Rico. My mom and I have a dream of someday being able to become foster moms for pups and have a rescue of our own. Right now we can't because of our jobs but someday I hope we can. Puerto Rico needs an eye opener when it comes to animal rights. There's hardly any dog parks here and there's too many strays. We want to be able to make a difference hands on. I can't work with all breeds due to my allergies but whatever I can do I will.
