I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I hope people read this thread, so many people think there aren't any Yorkies at kill shelters. We still have a lot of kill shelters in this country and it makes me sick that people are buying from backyard breeders instead of saving one of these dogs. The only reason to buy a Yorkie from a breeder is because you want to support a quality breeder and you believe in his or her breeding program and what he or she is trying to accomplish. We have to support quality breeders or they will stop breeding. Otherwise, please look into rescue, so many really wonderful animals out there are being sentenced to death for no fault of their own.

| I can't stand when people say there aren't yorkies in shelters. This thread proves there are plenty. Many of them are very cute. But people want a small young pup don't they? Trust me, I got Toto at 8, and now at 10 he's still very much a puppy.

| Awareness is part of the reason I started these threads, I might make another one for all other states because I see them come up in shelters everywhere. I hope people look at it too. It's heartbreaking. If I would have known how many yorkie said were in shelters in CA I would have for sure adopted on from there, of course at the time I wanted a puppy. I get it, puppies are cute but honestly older dogs are so much better. They have often already lived in homes and know basic commands. I would urge anyone looking for a yorkie to at least look at the rescues- you never know what might steal your heart!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Before I got Joey, I got all my dogs except for one from shelters, they can be really wonderful dogs. Going to the pound is a life changing experience though and it's so hard to see people support poor breeders.

| Thank you for making this thread, I posted the links to a local pet page on FB. I also noticed that there's SO many Yorkies (& other purebreds) on Petfinder...SO many need homes. Anyone wanting to purchase a pet, please consider opening your heart & adopt...you'll get so much in return.
