| Reputable breeder needed in Houston area I've ALWAYS wanted a yorkie. My mom has been an award winning Dog Groomer for many many years (Mechele Pryor/Colvin, if that rings an bells). I do have one dog, she's a german shepherd / golden retriever mix. My husband and I want to add another dog to our family, and I've finally 100% decided the only thing I want is a Yorkshire terrier. (The one in my head even has a name -- Cricket. --Don't judge me, I've wanted this since I was 8. I'm 23 now.) Anyway, I've been researching breeders around the area, and have come across way more than I expected. ((Especially a ton of them that have terrifying reviews when I google them, which is how I got here. So THANK YOU for this web site!!)) I work for a school district and I'm off all summer long, so I really want to find a puppy around that time, so she can adjust to our home with us there. :) I've seen prices anywhere from 400 - 3,000.... and while I'm not expecting the price to be super low (the ones around 400 seem to be the scary review ones of course.) I'm not looking for over 1,000. I'm not intending of breeding or using her for a show dog. I'm just a crazy dog lady. If you have any breeders you can recommend, please let me know! Thank you, Jamie Vest:aimeeyork |

Next go to www.ytca.org THis is the website for the National Club. Finally YorkieMom1 - Judy of Rosehill Yorkies is I believe in Texas and she does have a website. I'm sure she would be willing to speak with you and guide you along the Texas breeders of repute. I am not sure what in Texas is the average selling price of a well bred healthy Yorkie; if $1000 or so is a reasonable expectation or not. All I can say where I live in Canada it is not a reasonable one. $1500-$1800 would be more in the ball park for a pet quality well bred Yorkie. WE do have a saying here; Buy your breeder first! All pups are adorable, so leave that to last. Look as you have been doing at the breeders reputation first, at the health testing she/he does, at the health concerns he/she has experience in the lines that are bred. Look to a meaningfull health guarantee. KNow the Puppy Lemon Laws in your State. And make sure your breeder far surpasses them. Plan on getting Pet Insurance that covers genetic defects from the time you purchase your puppy. It is well worth the investment. Make sure you have some savings plan and money in the bank to cover not only the cost of the puppy, but the first year vet bills, and some way of paying for emergency vet care (should it be needed), as many plans re-imburse you after the expense is paid by you. And just as a further note; GSD and Golden mix, is a large dog, how do you plan on keeping a puppy safe around the large dog? Is she obedience trained to a CD level or above? What is her prey drive like? Do you plan on crate and rotate, until and unto such time, as the supervised inter-actions between large and small are consistently safe for the wee one? I know I have written a mini essay, but I hope that it has been somewhat usefull for you.

| I have looked at her website but it says she's moving farther and isn't breeding. Although so far, with all the breeders I've looked at (there's been a tonnnnnnnn, And I've ruled out 99% of them thanks to this site! Thank goodness for google.) she's been the only seemingly trustworthy one. My dog is pretty big but is very well trained and obedient. (We had a guinea pig and it was her best friend, haha.) she is also crate trained, as would be the new puppy we want for safety while unsupervised. I think my price point has definitely gone up with all the research I've been doing. The low prices catch my interest, but then I get nervous and remember you get what you pay for! Pet insurance I'd say I'd definitely have, especially with the price of the dog. Hell yes I'd say it's worth it! I appreciate your essay, thank you! |

Let her know you come from Yorkie Talk and Gail has suggested that you talk with her. Due to new APHIS regulations some to many small breeders might be shortly disappearing from the scene. It is a complex matter, which if you search on here you can read up on. Small home based breeders are seriously considering their options. I wish you much luck in your search.

| Please make sure you see the mother & father of the pups as well and don't fall for the ACA only papers. There are lots of Brokers out there so stay clear and word of advise...Do not go and look at pups until you find a reputable Breeder as it is so easy to fall in love with Yorkie puppies. I bought one out of Pearland and when I researched found that the Breeder is on a puppymill list. The lady I bought her from told me she got her pups from friends. Uh huh! So the seller is a broker and her friend runs a mill. Yorkiemom should know of Breeders in our area. Even if you have to drive a long distance to find the right puppy for you it will be so worth it in the long run. Can't wait to see your new pup!!! Good luck in your search.

| Oh yes I know, I've ruled out soooo many after looking online and my mom has ALWAYS made sure I've looked into very detail. And I DEFINITELY need to see mom and dad before anything. I know what I want, and I'm damn sure gonna get exactly what I'm looking for. It'll be a while to find I'm sure but Thanks, I'm excited none the less!! :-D |

| I'm excited for you and so glad to hear that you are being patient and doing all of your research. I'm a new member of a rescue group and last weekend I was at Petco looking to adopt out my little mutt pups when I heard this lady say " Oh I should bring my pups in". I asked what kind of pups they were and she said Yorkies. I dashed out to their truck just to take a peek. They were darling and if not for YT I would have been so tempted. They were only 6 weeks old and too full of cuteness. I did get their business card but only to look them up and possibly run their names by some of my YT friends. I did ask what their asking price was and they told me $900.00.
