| Yorkie Mix Needs a Home Hi everyone. The other day I found two puppies wondering around the neighborhood. I know that they don't belong to anyone because they had no tags and were seen earlier in the week by neighbors running around. I took them both in, in hopes of finding a good home for them. Thankfully I have found a good home for the Chihuahua yet have been unsuccessful with the Yorkie mix. The female Yorkie mix has a deformed right paw. She walks with a slight little limp sometimes but does not seem to let that get in her way as I have seen her run and play. I wouldn't dare take her to a shelter because I am afraid that her disability would be overlooked and would be euthanized. She is a sweetheart, has a very good temperament and loves to cuddle. This little girl deserves a loving home. If anyone in Central California is interested, please contact me.

| Wow...did you have them scanned to see if they were microchipped before finding a new home? My dogs are microchipped and don't wear collars but that doesn't mean they don't belong to anyone. I would start by checking for a chip, check craigslist, ebay classifieds, your local paper, public bulletin boards and things like that before just giving them away. I agree the little girl deserves a good home but maybe she already has one and she just got out of a fence or something. |

| I agree that some steps need to be taken to see if the owner is out there worried sick. Something may have scared the dogs into running far from their home and they are out of their neighborhood. It would be sad if the owner is looking in a different area and they are never reunited. Pls take the time to put up some FOUND flyers, run an ad in the newspaper (many let you have th ead free when it is a found pet), drop off flyers at local vets & shelters & have them scanned for chips. Nice of you to take them in and look for new homes but pls don't assume no tags means no loving owner.

| Well I think I may have an idea who they "might" belong to. They were seen coming in and out of a neighbor’s backyard yet this person has treated them badly from what I hear. I am also told that they have been seen for 2 weeks walking around in the streets. Just the other day the dogs entered my parents backyard threw a fence. The Chihuahua was so thirsty she leaned to drink water out of a pool and fell in!! This was the straw that broke the camels back for me. I am just so thankful that a family member was outside to save her life! They are not micro shipped by the way. Someone who neglects an animal and does not care about their whereabouts does not deserve an animal in my opinion.

| Your heart is in the right place but proper steps have to be taken before you just pick up a dog and give it away because you 'think' or have 'heard' they aren't treated well at home. If you think that's the case then you need to call the proper agency to check the home. I hope you have had them checked for a microchip...I would be furious if my dogs got out and someone assumed they needed a new home and just gave it away. If I were in your shoes, I would get the chihuahua back and take the proper steps in finding their home...if you are concerned about their care then please call the animal agency in your area to help. |

| Not trying to stir anything or cause an argument but I would not give a dog back to someone that was not taking care of it. If I knew for sure they were being neglected I would do just as the OP is doing and rehome them. Animal control / ASPCA is a crock they make an appointment to see the animal/s they feel are beiing neglected and then the owner cleans it up for them to see and they leave and nothing is done. I know this for fact. I would never again call the ASPCA for help. And, that is unfortunate, but it is how it is. They do not take the steps to go for an unannounced call, but rather make an appointment hence they find nothing. It's a crock. Right or wrong, sometimes we have to work outside the law in the best interest of the animal's well being. I know this may cause conroversy but it is how I feel. Elaine |

| Thanks for understanding Elaine...they were scanned for a microchip today and it came back negative. I have not given the Chihuahua away just yet. All I said is that I have found a potential owner for her. I spoke with a vet today and his assistants and told them the story and they all agreed with me. I know I am doing the right thing by finding them a good home. I didn't want to say anything earlier but these people are my parents neighbors and when my younger brother took one of the dogs over in the previous weeks the daughter grabbed the dog called her a *bleep* and spanked her. I know what I have seen and these dogs were neglected.

| I agree with your vet You should never give the dogs back to someone who is abusing them. You are doing a good thing. Anybody who abuses their dogs should be locked up just like child abuse. The laws are so stupid. |
