| 14 yorkies in shelters in TX yesterday Just yesterday, I received emails about FOURTEEN yorkies in shelters in TX. There is still one in need of a foster home in the Houston area and we have to find a spot for him before Thursday, Sept 16 or he will be euthanized. He is heartworm positive and the shelter he is in does not adopt out sick pups and they don't have the funds to treat. I tell people all of the time about the problems here with yorkies in shelters.....and I think it just does not register as we have so many people who just keep breeding them. We don't need any more in Texas!!! It is extremely depressing to see this day in and day out. If you have a love of the breed and have a good vetting history, please consider fostering. It is so rewarding to save the life of one of these precious pups. If anyone is interested in fostering, please email YHR at yorkiehavenrescue@yahoo.com

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I know Linda, it breaks my heart there are so many....and with this economy, yorkies being turned into shelters are increasing daily. I've done many charitable things in my lifetime.....none come close to the rewarding experience of fostering yorkies. It makes me sad that we can't save them all, but I know I've done my part to save the ones I have...and I don't regret one minute I've devoted to them. Each time Sophie Kate or Libby look up into my eyes, I am rewarded with looks of complete love, devotion, gratefulness and loyalty.....how could it get any better than that?♥♥♥

| Quite honestly, I don't blame the economy .. this has been going on for years. Yes, it does seem to be worse, but if people would not keep buying dogs they cannot afford, it would not be so bad...AND if people would stop selling to just anyone with a few bucks in their hand.......... Well, you know! It is just irresponsibility period. Yes, there are always extreme circumstances, but the numbers I see are not from that. Yes, Libby and Sophie Kate are two of the lucky ones. They would not be here if not for you, Jen.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | It is so maddening to see these poor babies like this. The shelter I volunteer at has funds to stay open another 3-6 months and then they don't know what they are going to do. I agree the problem had existed for a long time but the economy is definitely affecting the number of animals turned in to shelters/rescues and donations are done dramatically. I encourage anyone who can to try and donate to a rescue or shelter if you can't foster. I hope you can find a great foster home for this little guy.

Everyone wants a young, small, female yorkie. Do a search on Petfinder.

| I sure hope you can find someone to help with that Foster down there in TX. I can send in some money to help it out. When the lots are flooded wit h cars, the car companies cut back production How anyone can give a dog away just does not compute real well for this old man. I know more and more Corsi are going to shelters becuase people feel that have to have it, and then realize it is one big powerful beast and if you are not the Alpha, or socialize and train it constantly, it will destroy your house and possible you. Fads, just like Dalmations and the little Taco Bell Dog. God Bless all of you who help out anyway you can. Jen and Linda, you guys rock! |

| You are so right Steve. That IS the major problem with many breeds. People see something they want and don't do a minute of research.. then, when they have problems with the dog they just HAD to have, they toss it like its garbage. Just so hard to comprehend.

| Yes, Patti, donations are down for everyone and have been for some time. We all have to be very creative to make ends meet.

| I'm also sick of hearing the excuse that people can't find yorkies in shelters. This is proof that that is just not true. Or they want a puppy. Well a fellow foster mom just pulled an 8 month old yorkie puppy out of the shelter. How about they say the yorkies in shelters are "ugly"? I've seen plenty of yorkies on here that don't fit the standard either, plus there's not such thing as an ugly yorkie.

Many people think that there are no "good" yorkies in shelters. Not sure what they are looking for. I have seven yorkies and they all came from shelters or were owner surrenders....they look no different that any other yorkie. Each one is a gem! I love taking them out and when people ask about them, telling them they were from shelters. The looks I get are amazing...people really do not know.
