Love Bigger Biewer Girl Needs a Forever Home

I pulled an extremely sweet girl off CraigsList. She was kept in a terrible situation and came to me matted to the skin and covered in fleas and ticks. She was very shy around people and didn't want me to touch her at first. Now, she is shaved down and feels SO much better, she is free of fleas and ticks, and has become a very sweet and loving girl. She tap on my leg when I sit down so I will pick her up and put her in my lap or beside me. She loves to be with you. We are working on potty training, but she is not 100% there yet. She is a bigger girl, about 15-16 lbs. She is a good eater, although she was skinny when I got her she has put on quite a bit of weight eating just a better dry kibble. She has the most soulful big brown eyes. She is scheduled to be spayed next week, and after that she will be ready for her forever home. I did get a rabies certificate with her, and if it is correct she just turned 5 years, which seems about right. She is in good health other than a few scabs on her skin where she was so badly matted, that are now clearing up VERY nicely and she looks SO much better!! She seems to be good with male dogs, but is a little aggravated by females. Ideally I would like to find her a home where she is the only dog, or there is one other male dog. She prefers to be with humans, rather than other dogs. I have invested quite a bit in her at this point, but I could not leave her there. I am asking a minimal adoption fee, not even close to what I have put into her. I am most concerned with finding her a good forever home. I don't know much about history, other than that I found her in a terrible home and wanted her out, due to the high incidence of puppy mills in NC. I was afraid if somebody else purchased her that would be her fate, after she had already had a bad life. I welcome any questions that you have about her. Thanks!

Thank you, I have rescued several over the years, but something about her just captures my heart. I know I will find her the "right" home, but I am in no hurry. She is a very special girl who deserves only the best!

aw she looks so sad. I'm glad you rescued her from that horrible situation. Are you sure she's biewer and not a morkie or shorkie mix? just curious if the "owners" actually bought her from a breeder.

i hope you find her a great home. she certainly deserves it

Oh, she's beautiful. To me she looks innocent and hopeful - just wanting someone to love her.

Thanks, I assume that she really is a Biewer because they were selling her as a "breeder." I got registration papers with her and a pedigree. Of course, she was never bought for breeding, I just wanted her out of there. They didn't give a rats behind whether she went with papers or not...just handed them over. They could be incorrect paperwork or for a different dog, you never know, but according to what I have she is a purebred Biewer. I do see a lot of characteristics in her that are the same as my Biewers...I think she is just oversized. Some of the original Biewers imported from Germany were bigger, and since she is 5 years, it's very possible that she did come straight from Germany originally. Her rabies tag came from Oklahoma, and by what they told me, they purchased her for breeding but didn't have time to do it because of their kids something or another. Didn't really matter to me, I wasn't listening at that point...just wanting to get her and leave.

does her paper work or pedigree give any clues as to who the original breeder/owner was here in the US? since these people were looking to get rid of her and she was in such a horrible state i wouldn't think that they would spend the money to ship a dog from Germany. maybe you can track down her origins and see what kind of breeder the original owner was. they might want to know what happened to her. then again, they may not.

i'm just curious about her past since its rare to find biewers on CL, especially one so neglected. I am so glad you got her away from those people who obviously just wanted to get money for her and couldn't care less about who she went to or what she was used for. poor girl

Bless your heart for saving her! She is a doll. If you need any help, feel free to PM me.
My number one rule of thumb in adoptions is a vet check prior to any conversations with people. I want to know if they have had a good vet history, including yearly exams, heartworm testing and preventatives, dentals as needed. I also ask if the vet has suggested any testing and/or treatments that were or were not followed. I want to have a good idea about what kind of pet owners they are. I do not just ask the vet's office if they know the people...I have a list of questions that I ask. Also, the first question I ask is what dogs that office has seen...and I compare it to the ones the applicant claimed to have. If the vet check is good, then I go to the next step.
