| not a yorkie - cute Shih Tzu boy, vision issues in Iowa Digger is a sweet, mellow dog who likes going on walks and napping in comfy spots. His former owners said he is housetrained and crate trained. He also knows sit and shake. He was good with the children and other animals in his previous home. Adopt A Pet – Animal Rescue League, Des Moines, Iowa - click on Digger's photo - right now he is at the top Digger is a special dog with special needs. He has been diagnosed with keratoconjunctivitis sicca, a disorder that results in drying and inflammation of the eyes. A lack of medical care in his previous life has left him pretty much blind. His new family will have to be patient with him as he learns his way around his new home. Adopters must understand that Digger will have to be on eye medications for the rest of his life. Those medications must be administered regularly and could total about $50 a month -- a significant monetary investment. He will also need routine veterinary visits and will need his eye area cleaned regularly. Potential adopters must be certain they can afford Digger's care and must sign a medical waiver saying they will take responsibility for any future medical care related to his condition. Digger is available for adoption at ARL Main but is not located in the main adoption area. If you are interested in meeting him, please ask to speak to a member of our medical staff. If you are considering adopting Digger and would like more information about his special needs, you can e-mail medical@arl-iowa.org or call 262-9503 and ask to speak to a member of our medical staff.
