I'm just seeing this,I'm in Bakersfield and could have helped. Great job saving him!
Did he get his surgery or will he before being placed in a home? Poor guy.

I'm pretty sure it IS a no kill shelter.

The people at the SPCA had no idea who posted on Craigslist or that it had even been posted! The first woman I spoke with denied having the dog and said that they did not euthanize. Which is a blatant lie. Fortunately, the adoption rep realized that they did have the dog.

I was up this morning e-mailing every rescue I knew of (and Googling others) to try to save him. One lady turned me down because she was 4 hours away! She runs a rescue! Shouldn't they be willing to drive 4 hours for a dying animal?!? I know that I would have been willing to drive and get him just to make sure that he was okay.

Thank you all for your support!! It is so reassuring to know that I am not the only person who cares so greatly about the welfare of our smaller and helpless friends!

That's what I thought as well. But sadly, as I, initially, read over the internet and then the adoption manager confirmed for me, they do euthanize the sick animals. They will only adopt out animals in good health and those animals will not be euthanized.

Poor Winston was scheduled to be put down the day after I found out about him.

I still don't understand why the woman on the phone initially lied to me about it. Perhaps, she didn't know either?

Anyway! I will be posting photos of Sir Winston soon!

PS

The SPCAs policies are listed on their site http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer..._startashelter

This is a quote from the site:

""No-kill" shelters are generally privately funded and do not accept all animals brought to them. However, once accepted, animals are never euthanized unless they are incurably sick, disabled or display extreme behavior that makes them unadoptable."

I would be honoured to adopt this little guy when the time is right. Luckily I can provide virtually unlimited vet care for him, shoud I be selected as his forever home.

You might want to PM vixen about Winston so she sees it. I transported him part of the way from Bakersfield to her. He is the sweetest little guy. He has a ways to go to be healthy again, but Stephanie (vixen) can tell you about him. Or do a search on here for "Winston" and see the other thread that tells about his medical issues right now.

PS That is very sweet of you to make this offer. Good luck
