| Question on Pee Pads and other stuff (LONG) I'm going to assume that I will succeed in my search .... and that I am learning all of this information to put to good use.. So here goes... Please let me know your favorite products I have read some posts saying that changing pee pad brands may have caused problems. Does anyone have a favorite brand? Or just don't change whatever the baby is used to? Also, dog food? Currently we use Science Diet, which I really have not seen mentioned here? Any reason? Horror stories... I really liked the noticably better doggy breath, that's the whole reason we use that one.... Special toys suitable for Yorkies?.. Frank wont be able to share...except maybe for those tiny tennis balls..right? Are the clothes for warmth or to look cute? Had to ask.. I have never dressed a dog. I have often wondered if Frank would be warmer or simply embarrassed at a doggie sweater when he needs to go out to pee in 20 deg weather like today. I forgot to ask my vet about the vitamin paste... I see that a lot here and I know I was specifically told not to use it in the past..because my dog was healthy...something about balance...I don't honestly remember... What happens to dogs who are turned back over to the sellers due to hereditary health issues? - Maybe I should not ask that, but it might make that part of these contracts a lot less important for what my needs are. I'll stop now...I know some are already wondering about me...I do have over 2000ft of home that is mine..and plan on blocking off part for the beginning of the puppy's intro to our home...Mostly so we can get used to watching for it underfoot also.. Yesterday I put molding across the bottom of my laundry area because there were a couple of gaps that I could not figure out how to keep a tiny puppy away from. I have decorative molding in my laundry room now. My husband didn't even ask why I was doing it... Just shook his head as I was outside with a table saw in 20 deg weather. In all seriousness, I do appreciate all of your tips..and your older posts were what made me look for those smaller cracks and places to be wary of. Bren

| Re: Pee Pads. Once Bunjee got used to using a potty pad. it doesn't really matter what brand i use. I started using adult incontinence pads with dimensions smaller than that of the average potty pad. Bunjee is using it without any problems. Re: Dog Food. I'm feeding Innova Puppy. The first four ingredients are: Turkey, Chicken, Chicken Meal, Ground Barley. The first four ingredients on Science Diet are: Ground Corn, Chicken Byproduct Meal, Soybean, Animal Fat. 'Nuff said. Re: Toys I got Bunjee some small baby Kongs. He loves to chew on those and they're smaller for his little mouth. Just try different toys. Re: Clothes Yorkies have a single coat of hair as opposed to shedding dogs with an undercoat that keeps them warm. When it's cold outside, Bunjee does shiver and keep hiding between my legs to keep warm. So warmth or cute? I say BOTH! Re: Hereditary Health Issues Honestly even if Bunjee were to have any hereditary health issues, I don't think i'd be able to give him up. I'd be upset at the breeder, but send him back...i don't think that would be an option for me. |

| AHA! The no-shedding comes into play. OK...So stock up on pee pads, a couple of sweaters...Kong? Is that the red toy that you shove a treat into? I have a small one..If that is it? There are only five stores within 40 miles of me that carry that food...so I will look into that one further. Thank you for the tips... Bren

| Kong toys are the red things that you stuff food into. There's actually three version for different level of chewers. the baby version is blue/white and the texture is more rubbery and flexible ( baby kong ) the red ones are medium level and black is the stiffest, toughest to chew for heavy chewers. i got the baby blue/white version. In addition to the potty pads, I also got a training spray. It's suppose to have the scent of urine. To help puppies identify appropriate places to pee. The pet potty pads are suppose to be scented already, but i found that using the spray helps reinforce the scent. Other premium dog food I've considered: Natural Balance, Flint River Ranch, Canidae, Nutro Ultra. If you email Natural Balance and Canidae, they'll send you a free sample of their products. Good customer service. Quick turnaround. Flint River Ranch has samples available for purchase online. Nutro Ultra samples are sometimes available at pet boutiques. |

| Thanks again! You are a wealth of info.. Bunjee is lucky to have you! Pee spray? I'm definitely surprised. If I understood you right, I'm going to intentionally spray something that smells like urine....to help train the pup? OK, how often should I anticipate changing these pads? Do I spray each time? Am I completely off base thinking I should put the pads near my patio door and then transition to "outside"...??? I'll admit, I never saw the spray stuff coming..Although a couple of weeks ago, the groomer asked me if I wanted Frank sprayed with POLO cologne. That was my first indication that I should really start asking questions... And I know we will need a new groomer.. Frank obviously does not need a haircut. He goes in occassionally when he smells like a foot...to get cleaned and get his nails done.. I'm estimating that when I make my hair appointment, I will make the yorkies...or learn to do the cut myself...something tells me I am definitely not ready for that. I would not cut my kids hair... | It's called "potty training spray". It'll have the scent of urine that your dog can smell, but you won't be able to detect it. Potty pads are also scented in the same manner. I just give the potty pad a couple of spritz when i lay it down. You can also spray it in the area where you want to your dog to potty in your backyard. The idea is your dog is dependent on scent to determine where is a good spot to urinate. This is why it's important for you to get an odor eliminator and stain remover like nature's miracle to clean up if your puppy pees on the carpet. Otherwise he'll continue to pee in the same spot because he smells it. When Bunjee was younger, i used to go through 2 or 3 regular size pads a day. now we go through 1 or 2 of the smaller size pads. lucky for me, bunjee will go on the potty pad more than once. i know some puppies will not use the pad again if it's soiled no matter how small the stain. Personally, I think if you can train for going outside, you should just start there. I trained for indoor potty pad because i live in a condo and have no yard or patio. Sometimes it takes me 10 minutes to get downstairs waiting for the elevator and for a puppy with a small bladder, that's too long of a wait. Did you have Frank when he was a puppy? I'm sure training a puppy is about the same no matter the breed. There's just more fancy shmancy toys to do it with now. |

| I had purchased pads before for my dog..and put one near the patio door, but the weirdo just saved it up, went outside and took care of himself...Never needed them and gave them away long ago... I was shocked and GRATEFUL! I don't tell many people about that because I know they will either think I'm lying or have no idea how to take care of a "normal" dog..I know I wont get that lucky twice, so I'm trying to prepare. | Did I ask about the Nutra Cal? Is that just for when it is a puppy or for the life of the dog? It keeps coming up on breeder pages. Bren

| who knows, you might hit the jackpot twice with your yorkie on the potty training thing! i'm clueless about nutrical. my understanding is that it's a dietary supplement for additional caloric and nutritional intake. especially necessary if your puppy or dog refuses to eat or suffers from hypoglicemia. i guess it's good have on hand no matter what age the dog is. my bunjee's a little piggy, he always like to eat so i've not yet used it. |

| I use the peepads from Walmart - only $6 plus for 32 pads . . inexpensive but does the job. I staple two together so there is more room for my Tiger when he relieves himself. I feed him Innova Puppy food and am very happy with it. I also use this as his treats when working on tricks and playing with him . . . I have the Innova health bar as well for when he's been good and needs a reward. If you give your dog premium dog food, there is no need for vitamins. The food will provide the requirements for them to grow up healthy and strong . . . My Tiger loves various toys, but he goes really berserk with empty water bottles and ropes . . . . cheap can be good! Welcome to YT! |

| I buy Baxters pee pads at Walmart. I did find that it helps to have one of the frames to put them on or they move around a bit to much for them. Baxter is now 16 weeks old and any type of pad will do. As for food, I feed Nutro Natrual. Toys, any dog toy small and fury with a sqeeker. Also rawhides bones and flat round ones to chew on. Baxter loves to chew and this helps keep him away from furniture. Also I got a ICube at petsmart the other day. If has four sqeeker balls inside and he seems to just love getting out the balls and playing fetch(or teasing me) whichever mood he is in. Hope this helps.

| I buy the washable pee pads and put them by the door so just in case I don't get to them in time that's where they go. It's great also for using at night when i don't get up to let them out. Nutri Cal I use for my pups... |
