| collars Hi everyone! I have a 1 year old little Yorkie named Roxie. I am looking for a new collar for her. She has a collar that she slips over her bottom jaw! It is so scary! I do want her to wear a collar for her name, address, etc. She is microchipped. Any suggestions would be great. I have tried tightening it by one notch, but I think that is too tight around her neck Thank you! |

| I'm having a similar problem. JT's hair gets very matted under his collar, no matter which one I try, and I want his id visible on him just in case he slips out. The groomer had to shave his chest today. His hair is baby-fine. Does anyone know a collar that doesn't cause matts? A cat collar can be small enough. |

| In general, due to the collapsed trachea issues with Yorkies many advocate for harnesses and not collars. And, yes you are correct collars and harnesses can be a situation with Yorkie hair!

| Collars JT's collar is just for his identification tag. I agree with you, I would never put a leash on it. We use a harness for walking. But even the tiny collar and the tag caused mats. I just ordered a brush someone else recommended, along with a detangler. His daily brushing just got more complicated! 😊 🐾 |

| Even with collapsed trachea a collar should always be on for an Id. Mine wear Collars all the time unless in the pool or getting a bath. The youngest two are also microchiped. I am a member of lots of dog fb pages in my area and there are soooooo many dogs that go missing and don't have any collars.

| I like the 3/8" collars by yellow dog design they are not pricey but very soft and small. I use the quick buckle not the buckle that is like a belt.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Fitting a collar properly for a yorkie is different than for larger dogs. You really only want to be able to slip a pinkie finger btwn the neck and collar - that's it. If it can get to her jaw/mouth - it's wayyyy too loose.

| Yep and they are good at getting their jaws in that collar sometimes. After they get over that phase you can lossen it. I have Callie's where if she gets stuck on something she can slip out of it. Joeys is slightly loser like I can get two fingers in there but Penny's has to stay simi tight and she cannot have it on in the crate just in case. Most of my pups were used to them by 8 months but the people I got Penny from never put one on Penny so at a year she is getting used to it. We also had the phase of Penny taking Joeys off lol.

For my kiddos, I'd have them in a collar as a puppy, but if I left the house - I'd always take it off as a caution. When they were around 6-8mths, they could start wearing it all the time then.
