| Splitting up dose of K9 Advantix? I posted about this in the general forum but figured I would ask in here as well. We finally decided we're going to go with K9 Advantix for Logan's flea/tick prevention. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with splitting up the doses with this product? "Small dog" dosage is 0.4ml and the larger dog dose have much more product in them for nearly the same cost. I'm wondering if I could measure out 0.4ml from a larger dose with a needle-less syringe? I spoke with a rep on the phone today about it and she said they can't recommend doing it... but I also figure she's not ALLOWED to recommend it, as it would be ripping off the company. But as far as everything else she said, it's the same exact product in all sizes, just disbursed in different amounts. So mathematically speaking, it would be a LOT more cost effective to buy the larger dose and break it up over time. What I worry about is how well it will store after being opened? I'm not familiar with the packaging of this product so I'm curious if anyone has done this? Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

| I don't think you feed it to them. Isn't it a topical spot on product? It shouldn't be toxic... K9 Advantix® II - Videos | PetParents

| LOL yikes, yeah that would be a problem on my part! haha I'm just trying to see if anyone has done this with advantix. I know some people do it with other types of topical flea/tick treatments

| I do it with Revolution. I bought a special glass vile to keep the extra in, it has a special chemical impermeable lid. Also the dose may be different because the strength may be increased in the lg dog doses.

Ahh good point! I'm going to pick it up from a pet supply store... I think for now I'll just buy the proper dose for his size and itll buy me 2 months time to spend researching it haha. Where can I get a glass vile like that?

| I asked my vet about this last year when we got Teddy and she provided me with the amounts for splitting doses for the K9 Advantix. under 10 pounds 0.4 mL 11-20 pounds 1 mL She gave me some syringes too for drawing up the amount. We have saved a lot of money buying the larger doses and splitting it among our two pups. It's crazy how different the prices and amounts are for a single dose for a small dog and a large dog! |
