| Sweaters/Jackets for the cold I just got Sophia this May so we haven't had to endure any cold weather yet in Maryland. I was just wondering what products you use to keep your yorkie warm and when in the year they start wearing them! I also noticed that a lot of the jackets have places to attach your leash, but I was worried that it wasn't sturdy enough. So, I want to keep using her harness over the jacket. I was wondering if anyone else does that. Thanks!! |

| Hi. Congrats on your little baby. I really love the jackets from Petco. There is one jacket that has 2 D rings on the back and you just attach the leash to those. Most jackets usually have an opening in the back. I put a harness on my baby and then just pull the D rings through opening and attach the leash. I am a bigger fan of the jacket with the D rings built in because this way my baby can wear a sweater underneath the jacket and it won't make the harness tight on her. Usually you just watch your baby to decide when to put a sweater on them. I'm a very cold person, so usually if I'm cold, my baby is cold. Walmart has these cute little fleece coats that my baby loves. When I show it to her and she's cold, she puts her head into it on her own. All I do is just close the Velcro. I think it might get to the point where your baby will dress herself if she's cold. My favorite brand of clothing is the Lulu Pink brand and the Smoochie Pooch brand. One is sold at Walmart and the other at Petco. They are made from the same company. But their clothes is well made and lasts a long time. They wash well, as long as they're air dried. Although I've put some things in the drier with no problems. I would say 99% of my baby's clothes is from this line. Good luck buying clothes. I hope this helps a bit.

| I also put The harness on first and then the coat or sweater and put the D ring through the hole in the coat. I would not trust one of the pretty little clothing articles to hold Gracie. She is good on the lead but if she sees an animal she will pull. Gracie has already started to get cold. When the temp is under 70 degrees she will get chilly. I can tell because she will crawl under her blanket or mine. When our floors start getting cold I will let her wear her pajamas around the house. I am thinking of trying some doggy socks on her this year as her feet tend to get cold. She has very fine silky hair with no undercoat so it will depend on your dog's coat and it's ability to deal with the cold when you start putting the warm weather clothing on. |

| I like four-legged jumpsuits - like sweat suits - for really cold weather. I like a nice, heavy fleece. I usually put the harness on under her winter clothes.

I do the same! I don't like to put a harness on over clothes as they just don't fit as well. I want the harness to fit very securely, so I like coats/jackets with a slit on the back, so I can put her harness on first, then the coat, and feed the D-ring of the harness through the coat & then attach it to the leash. I walk ZoE on a public trail that has many other walkers, runners, bikes, rollerbladers, and people walking their dogs. While I've not had to do it yet, I want to be able to pull her up in a split second if I have to in an emergency, and the only way I can do that is with a very well fitting harness.

| Mina wears clothes everyday,so when I start putting sweaters on so will she. She has a couple of hoodies to put on to go outside. Her coat has a big buttonhole for her harness Dring to fit through,so the coat goes over her harness. |

| I put clothes on Kiko whenever she seems cold. Sometimes she wears jammies in the summer because she gets cold in the middle of the night when the a/c is running.Whether I put Kiko's harness over or under depends on the particular jacket or sweater. I do have to adjust the harness to get a good fit. Last winter we had snow and Kiko wore socks and boots along with her coat to go out and play in the yard. That is the only time she didn't seem to mind the boots being on her feet (we tried them out in the house a few times and she would take a step then shake her foot like she had something stuck to it). |

| Gracielove, I did put the socks on Kiko in the house last winter when it was really cold. She did okay with them. She walked a little funny at first, but after having them on for about 30 min, she seemed to forget they were there. |

| I think I read somewhere on here that if your baby's ears are cold then they're cold. Now Bambi has ginormous ears so they're in a different stratosphere but I still follow that guideline. Soon she'll be wearing at least a hoodie inside, then we graduate to layers . Bambi and Magic (papillon) have boots from AllDogBoots which I LOVE, they wish I didn't buy them . Magic has learned that I only do things for his own good... he doesn't like putting the boots on but nce they're on he's ok. If he puts up a fuss I'll send him out without them, he promptly turns around and mommy wins! Bambi's pretty sure I only do it to embarrass her. She'll come around. |

| Socks and boots I have heard about socks in boots but I have never tried it. Soph hates the boots, and if they have a rubber sole, she wont walk in the winter with them on. If there is a lot of dry snow, my sister uses two pairs of socks on her yorkie and it works GREAT (Soph is quite tiny so we cut the fingers off gloves)! She is way more comfortable with that. Just don't do it if its wet because the sock could freeze. If you want to use boots, get some with a soft sole (with grip) and waterproof them. |

| I know the reason dogs object to boots is they cannot feel their feet on the ground and don't feel confident enough to walk safely. Someone posted about a particular type of boot that she found her dog could wear. It had something to do with what the soles were made of. It may be here or in the product reviews. I think I'll just stick with socks for Gracie. |

| Teddy likes footwear, but Max does not. Max doesn't get cold or object to being wet like Teddy.
