| Burnt ends on Texas Toothpicks? What gives? Is it ok to give? Uni was a bit reluctant at first, but now she's chowing down on it. I gave her all the regular colored ones first and now all that are left are the ones with the burnt ends. Does anyone know how Merrick's dries these? Simple dehydration? Baking? what?

| According to the description on Entirely Pets, the beef tail is smoked. The Merrick website doesn't say. The toothpicks I have purchased recently seem to be much darker and crunchier than they were in the past. Maybe Merrick has been smoking them longer because of the scare/recall with their beef square product.

| That would make sense, smoking them longer= crunchier and easier to eat. Uni has been polishing them off in mere minutes, when before they would take her days.

| My guys are the same way --- used to get a lot more time out of the toothpicks. Now, it is minutes. How often do you let Uni have one?

| I give her a half of one every two to three days. They must have changed their "formula" now since we are both having the same problem. I will email them and see if they have any info.

| Score! I sent Merricks an email and they offered me a complimentary bag! I love them! This was the response I got from them about the TT looking different: Thanks for inquiring; Our Texas Toothpicks are all smoked and dried without any preservatives or chemicals. This is the same process we’ve always used when manufacturing them. We have started cutting off the ends of the tails so it would be a smooth end verses the prior end. I will certainly get this information reported to our quality control department for further review. If you will provide me with your mailing information I would be happy to send you a complimentary bag directly from here. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

| Got my free bag today! They look nicer, but still Uni ate up a half piece in about 2 seconds flat.

| I purchased another bag at a different store...they are just as dark from end to the other and my boys are eating them faster than ever too. I miss the light yellow ones that last a long time.
