| puppy-pen? ex-pen? help! Could someone please tell me if they've used any of these for their yorkie? I really like these, but I'm worried that the my future yorkie will jump out of the puppy pen or climb over the ex-pen and get hurt. I already know that I shouldn't have him wear a collar or harness while alone, but do you think it would be possible for even a grown yorkie to be able to jump over a 26" high puppy pen? I won't be getting a yorkie until March or April of next year, but I'm trying to find all the products I'll need now. I was thinking of the plastic kennel for use in the car(it has a seat belt holder), I just think that it would be safest. For the puppy pen, I was thinking of putting the puppy in it at night (in my room) and during the day, the puppy-pen could be put in the ex-pen. Also, I know they have tops for the ex-pens, but have any of you used those? I'm afraid of getting an ex-pen for fear that it woud collapse on my yorkie (is that possible?), but I want to make sure he has plenty of room to play while I'm at work, and so I don't think that the puppy pen is nearly enough room for him during the day. I'm trying to find a wire ex-pen that is impossible for a dog to climb out of (longer verticle wires?) Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! plastic kennel puppy pen |

| I use the puppy pen for my babies and although they have not jumped out of it...I was watching Deb "bounce" tonight and realized that she can almost jump as high as the pen. I didnt know there was a top you could use on them, but will be researching that next. The pen is great though. I just got my second baby today, but it gives them plenty of room to play while I am at work and plenty of room for her wee pads at the opposite end. This way they dont have to hold it all day while I am working!

| Harley LOVES his X-pen! He thinks it's the greatest and actually WANTS to go in it! I had the same thoughts and worries as you. See Harley is a "hopper" and likes to show off sometimes but he has NEVER toppled his xpen.. I've been ever so impressed! It has a lot to do w/ the -Eight corner stabilizers (black plastic pieces that can be used as floor protectors or to keep the pen in the octagonal configuration). It keeps them locked and keeps it from tipping. I've never used a top for mine but bet it would be a fine addition. I got mine from petsmart and it's been by far my best investment.. hehe besides Harley of course! Plus it's pretty inexpensive.. Check it out.. http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...=1130729540656

| I've been looking at them too, and my concern is if they jump up on the side - won't they flip over? I need something that I can take to relatives to "contain the pups to an area, but I don't want it to scratch their floor etc. The plastic ones seem like little ones could get out under or through the joints, or get their heads caught. The soft sided ones look like little toe nails could get caught. I just don't know what I want exactly. Any experience/suggestions?

Platinumyorkies- the reason she said that is bc sometimes it can be a risk for a yorkie to have his/her collar left on bc he/she could get caught up on something and hurt and even sadly hang themselves. This is why it's important not to leave them on your babes when they're in their xpens. I personally only have Harley wear his when we go out and he needs his id tags or whenever he's in my sight. I'd rather be safe than sorry!

| Your plan is pretty much what I did when my pups were just babies. My ex-pen never collapsed, but my youngest Abby did figure out how to climb out of it. I didn't buy a cover, but made one with a large blanket and clips from Home Depot. I remember someone on YT making one themself with plastic or something like that. Once the puppy is a bit older, you can switch to a regular car seat. Especially if they are going to travel with you a lot. It can get a bit tedious having to move the kennel in and out every day. As for the harness, that is a controversial thing on this site. I personally believe in them wearing a collar with ID no matter what. But if memory serves, there was a young yorkie that accidentally hung themself over the pen with either their collar or harness. But if you work and are gone a lot, it's comforting to know that for whatever reason, if they were to get out, they have some sort of ID. I live in CA and my biggest fear is an earthquake and my dogs running away. Good luck!
