I have found a few crates that I wanted to get...

They have the hard travel crates....

Then they have the Soft crates....

Then there are the steel ones...

My question is what goes best for a puppy....I want the soft one because it is like a play yard but with a door...Will that hurt him? WHich one would you pick?

I have one similar to the second one for my yorkie that I used when she was a puppy. When she was little it was what she slept in and I had to keep her in if I left the house. I got one from walmart that has a food and water dish that snaps onto the door- we really liked it. I got one big enough so that I could keep a heating pad on one half of the carrier for night time. Plus they are easy to clean. I cant imagine cleaning the soft carrier. And if you travel you can always use the hard carrier.

I have the wire one (like the third picture) and love it. If there are accidents, the bottom slides out for easy cleaning, but it allows more ventilation and air flow through the cage.

i have the last two crates... i think they like the openness of the last one.

I have ALL #3 you have pictured .

Here is what i can tell you about each.
if you have a chewer forget number one. BUT I like number one because it does has the handles and the carry strap, plus OK it looks Cooler then the plastic or metal.Plus it does have pockets. Well at least mine had this stuff and it LOOKS likethe one you have pictured. oh yeah it hads roll up and down fron and sides too.

Number 2 is lighter weight then 3 and washes out easy and is airline approved(usually). It has a cary handle and snap in dish which is nice too. great for traveling or car rides.
Number 3 is what youshould get if you are going to CRATE RAIN your dog. they are much more comfortable with all the VIEW they get and can feel more part of the family in his kind.

Just buy them somewhere you can return them. Loki loves his wire crate and we used a small 18" one for crate training and then got him a bigger one once he was trained. He can still see us and it's easy to clean.

He HATED his plastic travel crate. HATED like he would cry like he was dying and he would immediately pee and poop in it so we would take him out. He did not react like that to his wire crate. We ended up returning it and bought Loki a booster seat for the car. He loves that.

Loki would chew through a soft crate. He is not a destructive chewer at all, however he would not be able to resist chewing on the mesh and fabric on the first one.

We have traveled with the wire one - ours collapes. It's easy to set up!

ok, to add to this which one would you use for a wall to wall carpeted house? I think I am one of those people who try to plan everything( i think that is what I am doing here)...I planned on training him on a pee pad on my back porch( it's enclosed, but not heated) a every couple of hours. I also planned on moving him to a bed or mine, I did not want him to be in the crat forever. I don't know what to do...Thank you guy's for your help, it is helping me think more. I had planned on training him by using a baby play yard.

Well i have somethign similar to #2, the top is wired too and can be opened i thought to get that one b.c of more open space, and when he was a tiny lil thing that crate seemed HUGE but now he practically that size and i only leave him there when i need to clean ..
he sleeps in my room on the floor with 3 baby gates surrounding him ... spacious, you should see him sprawled out too cute and then i cover the top with a blanket
i wish i wish i knew of this site b4 i got my baby .. i was one of those ppl who did it all backwards.. i got the doggie then i got all the rest of the stuff .. his first nite Chicle slept in a square hamper.. the next morning i went and got that crate. and that same day he learned how to get out of the hamper too .. lmao awwwwwwwww the good ol days lmao

So, the 3 baby gates can you explain that to me more please...Is he on a schedule...Did you crate train him.

for wall to wall carpet you want the second one

I too have all 3.

The Wire crate, in my opinion is VERY heavy.

I used the hard plastic crates to crate train all my dogs.

The soft crate is nice for travel. As someone did mention, if they are a chewer, it may not be the best choice.

From Favorite to Least favorite, for the home I would choose:
1. hard plastic crate
2. soft fabric crate
3. wire hard crate
