Fido Float Dog Life Vest I ordered a Fido Float Dog Life Vest for Sydney for going to the lake. I hope it fits and it works for her. She doesn't seem to be too afraid of water, so I thought I should play it safe with her. When it arrives, I'll review it (after she gets in the water, of course). lol Amazon.com: Premier Fido Float Dog Life Vest:...

| Awesome! Can't wait to see pics. Jackson got a lifejacket this summer; and he loves it. He loves water and knows how to swim, but I felt like for added protection, plus he won't have to work as hard and can swim longer.... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...mping-joy.html

Life Vest Let me know how it works. I just purchased a life vest off ebay because my baby cannot swim and I have a pool. I have two, both females, 1.5 years and 4 months. I'm not sure if the baby can swim, but my older one has fallen in my pool several times and either sinks or tries swimming the wrong way. I'm going to teach her how to swim to the steps this summer...just in case. (Don't worry, I'm always outside with them so I can grab them right away.)

I'm kicking myself because we were at the lake Sunday and I forgot the camera. Syd looked very cute in her life vest. She went into the water, but not deep enough for her to float. What I did like about the vest were the handles. I could pick her up if I needed to. My mother-in-law, who has a Shi Tzu thought it was a joke and said Sydney didn't need one. I'm not taking any chances, though. Sydney likes water and too many things could go wrong quickly. When we are at the lake, Syd will have her life vest. Plus, for less than $8 on Amazon, it wasn't a bad price either.

I think you can start training them to swim right away. Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong. You don't want to throw them in. The best way is to wade in with them with your arms/hands under them. The water should only come to your ankles. Some dogs will like it while others won't.

I agree. When we return to camp, Sydney will have her life vest again.

When Hot Rod was doing his water therapy after his surgery, we had Maggie in the hot tub too and you could see when she was getting tired...she actually slowed down paddling and just about stopped paddling on her own so I can only imagine if she didn't have her vest on. We have always put their vests on anytime they go into the water and away from the boat.

Please let us know how it fits! We live on the water and go out on the boat every day. Mack can swim but I am so afraid that he might jump or fall in and if we are in the ocean the surf can be rough. We bought him a life jacket and its too bulky. I have tried several different brands. I wish I could sew, I would make one homemade. I dont want him to have to stay inside while we are out on the boat this summer. He loves being the skipper

| I got a Fido Float life vest for Polo from someone on YT. It works really well Polo already tried it out in the bathtub and it keep him afloat. They do run small though Polo measured a tiny size but it was too small. but I got him an xs and it fit him perfectly so you might have to go up one size. Polo likes water he is the only dog in the small dog park to swim in the baby pool he also has a baby pool in the back yard that he loves to swim in and play with his floatable toys.

The Fido Life vest fits Sydney perfectly. It isn't too bulky and she doesn't seem to mind to wear it. I did get Syd the tiny. She's a bit over 5 lbs., but she has a narrow body. I don't think it would fit my mom and dad's Yorkie Ginger, though. Although Ginger weighs the same, her body is rounder.

We have life vests for ours. Isabel likes to chase Homer (our Lab) in the water. We throw sticks to him and she cannot let him have them! She can get pretty far. Another reason, we tease, is so a big fish doesn't try to get her, she is so little. Harley had his on and we were putting the boat on the trailer and the guy next to me goes, hey, your dog is in the water! He had fallen in (he liked to walk along the edge) and swum around behind the boat. I just reached down and grabbed him by the handle. Harley liked to attack waves and bite and snap at them and would do so forever if we let him. He never got deep, but instead of worrying he would tire himself out, we just put his jacket on and didn't have to worry as much. They are also great conversation starters when you are walking on the dock!
