| My yorkie is between 8-10 pounds and wears a harness. Is he big enough for a collar? The last time I took him to the vet was a few months ago and he was 8 pounds so im thinking now he is between there and 10 pounds. Since he is not that small (compared to some other yorkies) is he big enough to wear a collar? |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I would stick with a harness. My Shih tzu is a big boy and I won't let him wear a collar unless it is for show. They still can have issues with collapsed trachea.

| I have always used a harness on all of my dogs, even my Australian shepherd. I hate to see a dog pull on a lead and have a collar choking them.

| I have Reesie in a harness and he is about 9 lbs. I just feel safer that way.

| No. Yorkies bigger than that have had trachea problems. It's the pulling on the leash that can harm their trachea when wearing a collar.

| I also use a harness when walking. Rily is 9 pounds and wears a collar with ID when we are out, but he still wears a harness too.

| All my three wear a collar with their name and telephone number tag and Identichip tag on. We use a harness though when taking them for walks. I always think a harness could rub if left on all the time, but it's a matter of choice. Some don't agree with having their name on tags, but I feel if they were lost and someone found them at least they'd know their name and my dogs wouldn't feel so strange. Hugs Shirl x x |

| Jackson wears a collar 24/7 but for walks, it's always a harness. Even though he's 12lbs, his little neck is so sensitive and the few times he has worn a collar/leash and gives a slight tug, he's made choking noises so I try to prevent it.
