| doggie doors Any opinions/reviews? I want to put one in for my little dogs but I want to research first. We need to put it in the wall, not in a door. Has anyone done that? Thanks! Monique |

| We've used doggie doors for years in the different homes we've had...some were in the door and some were in the wall. They worked great in the past with Boog and the others but Jo & Riley just don't get it We tried bribing them through with a treat, which worked fine until you didn't give anymore treats. Next we took the advice of someone on YT and taped the door up in the hopes that they would get used to going through the opening...that worked...they're used to it being opened, but then the tape lets loose and the door closes and they won't go through. So, yesterday was the day to get tough...no more tape, no more treats...we're determined they will learn! Yah, right I gently push one through the door, then the next...then I go to the other side and repeat, repeat and repeat yet again. So guess what?? Now they think they can't come through the door unless I'm there to push them through so they stand there and Riley barks until I come get them. I'm about to give up... | No recommendations for any particular type of door, but if you are going to put one in the wall, don't forget about any electrical wiring that may be in the wall where you are cutting out the hole. A friend of ours told us that the one and only time he put a doggy door up he sliced right thru some electrical wiring! So be careful! |

| QUOTE=Jo-Jo] I'm about to give up...[/QUOTE] Nah, don't give up. Maybe you can try letting them see the treat then tossing it out the pet door letting the door close. They might go through on their own to get the treat. They'll get it eventually. Do I need to get a special kind of pet door to install in the wall? What brands have you used and which do you prefer? I'm the winning bidder so far on a PetSafe small pet door at $10. Could be a junky one, though. |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | haven't done one on the wall but ours in incorporated with our sliding glass door. I LOVE IT! I haven't had to deal with poopie or pee except I think once or twice since we put it in. Even during the night, they don't have to be crated anymore. Mine will jump off the bed and go outside...I wake up when I hear the door swinging. I wouldn't trade mine for ANYTHING!

| Here is a link to the one we bought. We had to install in a wall, also. It was VERY easy to install. My DH had no problems, and he's not very handy. http://www.moorepet.com/moorepet/ind..._code=HALEWALL Hope this help you. Cyndie Trevor's Mom |

| At our previous house with our toy poodle (RIP), we had a doggie door that was part of a sliding glass door. We first had it in the living room but when we replaced that sliding glass door with french doors, we moved it to the bedroom. He adapted really well both times. It really, really spoiled us though because now with Tatum and the fact that we live in the country and can't have her going outside without our supervision, we have had to learn to remember to take her out to do her business. She's one of the strange ones that does not bark at the door when she wants/needs to go out. She'll just sit quietly at the door looking out the glass. She'll give the cutest firm "I mean NOW" bark when she's ready to come in but not the other way. Anyway, just came here to say that yes, a doggie door is great and that I had no problem training our poodle to use it. Don't have any experience with the "in wall" type though. Good luck!

| Most doggie doors are made to go in a screen door or house door but I think with the in wall doggie doors you have to get extentions to match the thickness of the wall. |

| I know how you feel Jo-Jo. We had one for our cats before we got Reagan and she won't use it to save her life. It can be open and she still won't go through it she'll just look out and bark. She sees the cats go through it and our big dogs stick their heads in it(that's all that will fit) but you can't get her to go through it. I think she thinks its a window. At least its not just mine.

| We have the patio door model also: here's a link to what it looks like http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...=1128456201812 I love it and I think they do too, because they spend all their time running in and out.....just like little kids. We have a fenced in yard but not covered, so we are careful to keep an eye on them because of coyotes and hawks that we have around us. The panel is closed at night, I get too nervous. And then in the winter we take the door out. It didn't take long at all for them to learn how to use it. Even my new Biewers are old pros at it. Leo even takes toys out with him. It was funny to watch him attempt to take a dish out. Of course it won't fit, but he tries once in a while.

| I have never had a doggie door. But I think they are great for people who have fenced in yeards. I wouldnt have one where we live now Only b/c we sit on 5 acres and no fence and I would be afraid for them to go out by them selfs. afraid they will go to far . |
