| Minksheen flea protection? I am getting a new puppy in a few weeks and am getting ready to order Minksheen since I have read so much about it on here. I have read about how soft it leaves the coat but what about the flea protection? The site claims that the cedar and citronella oils protect from fleas and ticks. For those of you whom use Minksheen has this been enough protection for your Yorkies? I'm just wanting to make sure it seems to be and prevent a flea problem instead of ending up having to treat one. If it is not enough, what do you guys recommend? She will be 12 weeks old when I'm bringing her home so I'm worried about flea treatments with her age/weight (She's only 1.5 pounds right now) Any advice would be great! |

| I use minksheen. I dont know if the flea prevention in it works or not because mine still get fleas but usually only a couple a yr. When they do I give them a dawn bath. If that doesnt get rid of them I put flea preventative on them. I have only had to use flea preventative once so far this yr. I dont use it unless I have to

| Yeah, we use Minksheen on Roxy and she went outside Saturday and came back in with 4 fleas on her. I gave her a bath with Minksheen and it did not phase the fleas! What does work pretty well is Apple Cider Vinegar. After you bathe your puppy, coat her coat with ACV and do not rinse. The will stink like vinegar for a day or so but the smell will go away. It will not kill the fleas but it will keep them from coming back (for at least a week or so). Face tip, Roxy's face is the place the fleas like to hide so what I do it wet a paper towel with ACV and wipe her face with it (avoiding her eyes). It works great and makes her coat so pretty! Hope this helps!

| Minksheen is a great shampoo but I wouldn't use it for flea/tick protection only. You need a flea/tick med to do that. Even tho Minksheen does have a repellant in it I don't think it is strong enough to prevent fleas and ticks from getting on your pup. I use Fronline Plus and stretch it to 6wks instead of the recommended 4. I also use 2/3 vial instead of the full vial and Buddy is a larger Yorkie. Never saw a flea on him in 5yrs however did see 3 ticks over that time so that's no bad at all. Ticks I can deal with, fleas never. |

| The shampoo alone is not enough protection against fleas and ticks. But, if you use a grooming spray that has repelling essential oils, this combination works well without needing to go the standard chemical route. I really like Cain & Able Lavender Fresh Between Bath Spritz. I always use this on the girls before we go outside for a meet-up and I've never seen a flea on them!!!!

Jodie, do you think this is strong enough for a dog that get's walked 4x daily? A spritz before each walk? I'm interested in knowing more about this product. I have yet to find anything secure enough to protect Buddy outdoors. I hate using frontline but fleas are not welcome on my dog or in my home. I am always looking for something safer as well but you gotta do what you gotta do. Do they have a web site I could visit? Thanks in advance, | |

I don't know if they have a website or not, but I have found it on Ebay before. My girls are not outside regularly, but when we go to meet-ups we are outside for several hours in places that would definitely have fleas. I spray my girls liberally, especially on the underside and I've never seen a single flea on them. I'd say its worth a try - perhaps right before you're going to re-treat with Frontline and see what you think. The smell is pretty strong, so I don't use this as a grooming spray - just for outside stuff. It has lavender , tea tree, citronella and eucalyptus oils in it and you can definitely smell the tea tree/citronella!!!!!

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I have 2 girls expecting and didn't want to use anything on them. I have been using minksheen and have not had 1 flea. I do keep my grass cut really short also.
