A little Harness Advice please First let me say that I am very lucky. Mokey is just 5 months old and has never had a problem with walking on a lead and also seems to be pretty well house trained. My only "problem" is that after she is left alone her excitement level is so great that she cannot contain herself. I have solved that problem by ignoring her until I get the door open. I am secure in the fact that she will not run off and just gets all her greeting and leaking done on the patio instead of the carpet. Anyhow I have been using a sizeright figure 8 type harness and apparently doing it wrong. It is designed to slip over the head and then around the girth. What I have been doing is putting one paw through and then over her back and under her other front leg and then snapping it closed. Until I find something quicker I will probably keep using it the "wrong" way as I have been. That way it has no contact at all with either the chest or throat. That being said, if I use it the right way it seems to be more comfortable when not attached and I may be able to just leave her in it when I am away. I am looking for an alternative that is both safe and "fast." Mokie is a large puppy about 9-10 pounds. As a man with a small dog I prefer stick to the plain and simple. Mokey thinks she is a collie anyway. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How do i find Cindy for examples of harnesses? I use one but it mats up Roxy's hair and it's rough where the material ends. Do you know anything about the rounded leather ones? Thanks! Last edited by Shelly Shell; 06-24-2009 at 12:53 PM.

harness I used a harness on Tessie since she was so out of control and hyper when I took her on a leash and I didn't want to choke her. It was called a comfort harness and made of soft nylon, and is adjustable. I got it at Petsmart. I loved it but she scratched all the time because it pulled her hair so we are now using a collar. Good Luck

If you want to leave a harness on all day I would use a fabric "harness vest" - one with velcro would probably be safest. A step-in like Cindy's would be easy to take on and off, but you probably don't want to leave that on all day just because of the hardware on it. Here are a ton of harness options you can take a look at: Harnesses for Small Dogs from Golly Gear

I've tried just about every harness made. I prefer two types the Choke Free and the Buddy Belt. The Choke Free goes on quickest, but I like the leg holes on the Buddy Belts. Although, I've never tried one of Cindy's (ChattiesMom) I know many here do like them. Quote:
If the rounded leather ones you're referring to are Buddy Belts - I love them!
