| How to store bully sticks? I do not let Rudy always have his bully stick. He often gets it when I need to get something done in the house, such as make dinner, and then he always gets to have it when we are eating. My question is, how do you store them when your dogs don't get them? I want to put it up so he doesn't have access to it but I have found putting it in a resealable bag is awful as far as the smell is concerned. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I want Rudy to think of the stick as a treat and not something he gets all of the time. |

| Keeping them in a sealed bag prevents bacteria from growing on the part that is chewed, but if it smells too bad, try sticking it in the freezer. |

| I'm planning on ordering some bully sticks for Boomer, but have never given them to a dog before, do the ends get soggy (like a rawhide) after they've been chewed on for awhile. And if they do, doesn't putting them in a sealed bad/jar, etc... open the door for mold/bacteria to grow on them? I want to safely be able to store them, but don't want to take a chance on introducing any "yuckies" to my baby. Thoughts??

| This is why I prefer to buy the small ones -- 4-5 inch. Then I give it to them and they pretty much devour it in a day. When there is just a small soggy part left, I pick it up and throw it away. I think there is plenty of air left in a sealed plastic bag for bacteria, and I know for sure for mold to grow. The freezer idea is a good one for big bully sticks. But you can use a small saw to cut through the large ones and then just give the smaller pieces -- not too small though. Don't want a choking hazard. That is why I throw them away when they get them down to that last soggy inch or so. You ought to see my little puppies go after their bully sticks! It is hilarious. Must taste a lot better than dog food cause they rush in, climb over each other and wiggle those little tail nubs so fast I crack up laughing.

| I've stored bully sticks in a plastic baggie & it got moldy after a while...I think for short term storage, it's ok. Freezer idea is fantastic. Even tho it does get soggy, it doesn't come apart easily like rawhide which can be injested & can cause blockage. Mimi & Momo love AMD bully sticks...& they don't have that funky stink!

| maybe I am just really bad, but If my little ones don't finish it or just leave it in their bed I just leave it alone. When I get to them usually the end that has been chewed on it is already dry again!

| FREEZE them. It's great. Jemma loves the cold, I guess on her gums and teeth. When I take it from her I put back in the bag and pop it back in the freezer. Lasts longer too!! Carol and Jemma BTW, AMD who posted in this thread sells the BEST bully sticks around!! Ask Jemma ) And they do NOT smell like most bully sticks do. Last edited by Jemma; 05-20-2009 at 01:57 PM. |

| I've stored the bullies in a baggy & popped them in the freezer...now, can I give it to them cold?? or should I let it thaw?? If it's frozen, does it break off when they chew it, or does it still get chewy??

I give mine the Bully Sticks cold...right out of the freezer. Frozen bully sticks are good teethers as well. Pieces don't break off, but it does still get chewy. | |

| I order all my bully sticks from ADM and keep one package in the fridge in the zip lock bag and the other bags in the freezer till a new bag is needed. My lil one woofs them down and she will go through a 6.5" stick in under an hour so I never have to worry about leftovers I give her 1 or two a week as I don't want her getting too much protein.

| I think 12 weeks is ok to give bully sticks. They'll love it esp if they're teething. Always supervise your pup!
