| Wee Wee pads?? Apartment Princess <3 Hello out there! I am looking to get my baby puppy in mayish/June. I will be moving into a new apartment before I bring her home. It's one floor, and spacious (well enough for 1 person and 1 puppy) haha My question is, what is the best idea for potty? I have heard about Wee Wee pads...I would be all about this idea if it really works...? I will be at work for a portion of the day and I dont want her to feel that she needs to hold it... I was thinking I could leave her in an X-pen with a pad when I'm at work and put the pad in the bathroom when I'm home.... Any suggestions???? I need advice on this!! |

| we have 3 girls and we live in NYC in an apartment. My girls are 100% wee wee pad trained and they don't go outside during winter time at all for potty. they usually have the free run of our apt except the bedroom and bathroom while we are gone and they use the wee wee pad to go bathroom. you just have to be consistant and be patience when you are training them on wee wee pad.

| Yes thats a GREAT idea, I have a 1 bedroom apt as well and thats what I did with peanut. I just got him a xpen an set him up on some tile with a bed, blanket toys and food and a chew toy (nylabone or kong) and the pad on one half and the other half was all this stuff, and he figured it out. Then when I was home I would just put his pads in the corner and take him there every so often and soon enough he got the hang of it its a lot of time and frustration but WELL WORTH IT Good luck!!! and congrats!! cant wait to see your new baby

| Hi, I'm in an apartment and I read a lot of books about yorkies and online about potty training before I got Kodak. It worked really well the 2nd time with Kamari even though they will still have accidents. The members here also had good suggestions that I will pass on and it helped me out. I purchased a metal crate and padded it comfortably for his bed area & I left the door open. If you don't use a crate, at least put a bed out for your pup. I also purchased 2 baby gates ($10 at Walmart) to confine him to one area while I was gone. I put a pad he had already peed on outside the crate so as soon as he walked out, he could smell it and use it. I then surrounded the crate with pads. I left little plush squeaky toys (away from the pads) & in his crate to help him with his teething so he wouldn't chew the pads or my shoes etc. I put a stuffed pup animal with one of my socks tied on it so he could smell me and lay on it while I was away. I left a radio or the tv on so he could get use to noises to help him to not be startled or scary. I kept a small bowl of kibble and most importantly a water dish to the side away from the pads. They need to learn to distingush the difference of where to eat and where to pee. I gave him a fingertip of nutrical before I left every morning to. When I got home, I would pick up the pads and clean up any mistakes made outside the pads. It's takes a minute but they eventually get it. One thing that helped me was to take them out every morning around the same time. Even if it meant waking up 15 minutes earlier, it's worth it. This creates a schedule for your pup to use the bathroom around the same time everyday. Then as soon as I walked in the door, before I took my coat off, I let them out again. My last time letting them out was before I go to sleep and they would get up and go to the pad during the night or hold it. If you see your pup running in circles or looking for a spot, take him to the pads or let him outside asap. This helps him to know to start signaling when it's time to go and to run to the pad or go outside. It's a lot and this may not work for everyone, but I hope it helps you out. If you're going to take him in another room with you, put another pad down but not all the time. They have to learn one area or outside. Good luck.

| I just ordered an indoor potty system for my new arrival (she's coming home at the end of March). I went with the Pup-Head, but there are many others out there. Some are all plastic for around $49, and others use artifical or real turf and can go up to $199. The Pup-Head was $149. Yes, it's spendy, but I did a lot of research, checked reviews etc and it seemed like a great idea for the daytime potty breaks. Amazon sells a bunch - or just google indoor dog potty. Best of luck - and congrats on your upcoming furbaby's arrival

| crate training is awesome but if you get a pup like my bailee, heres another idea...leave it to me to pick the pup that will not be like most other dogs lol from day one she would go to the bathroom in the crate everytime i left her(i think this is partly the breeders fault but we wont go there) i was scared to let her sleep in the bed with me cuz she was sooo tiny so the bathroom became her room. I put up a babygate and put her pad in there and it worked like a dream, she always used it with nor problem, now that she is bigger,if my boyfriend is over, she sleeps in her cozy bed and has access to the pad should she need to go at nite and since we started that she has had no more accidents yay!!! i will have my own two bedroom apt next year so she is going to have her own bedroom(yes my baby is spoiled)but pee pads are great for apt dogs, xpens are nice too(i just dont have the room rite now) just thought id offer an alternative to crates in case you get a bailee hehe but pee pads are the way to go if you live on the 3rd floor like i do lol, good luck cant wait to see your baby!

| My sister and I moved into a new flat three weeks ago. Naturally, Cash is living with us in our 2-bedroom, 4th floor apartment. I am gone from 09h00 to 16h00 on most days - Cash is two years old and I spent a lot of time preparing him for times when I am not at home (We prepared for this for two years ) So, I am retraining him to use pee pads (he is outdoor potty trained) and so far, it has gone better than I expected. He was really difficult to potty train at first, but he has done very well on the pee pads. I put one down in the bathroom (I tried the balcony, but he doesn't like to go there alone at night - he mostly does his stuff at night) and he has been using it about every night now. I also put down some bath mats (he always does his business on these) on the balcony with pee pads on them since he doesn't like to do no.1 where he does no.2 . So now, he does no.1 on the balcony and no.2 in the bathroom. Of course, there are still mistakes, but we are getting there.

| i live in a 2bed 2.5bath apartment and i have 2 babies! both of them are potty trained to go on the potty pad. i don't take them outside to potty at all - theres a lot of other dogs here and some of the people dont have their big dogs on leashes. i dont wanna risk them attacking riley & maddie. when my boyfriend and i are at work they have full access to the living room, kitchen and my bedroom and we have a baby gate put up to block them from going to the other places in the apartment. i always keep the other bedroom door shut and the bathroom doors. their potty pads are in the corner of the room on top of a rug because we have wood floors. i usually change the pads every other day and i pick up the poop and flush it down the toilet everytime i see it.
