| Travelling Yorkie Hi Everyone! I am in college and my Yorkie, Petrie, and I tend to travel about 1 1/2 hours a week by car to go home to do various things. But Petrie gets car sick usually every trip we make. I have thought about buying something to give him to control his anxiety when we travel but I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not! If you could recommend anything I would be greatful! Thanks! |

| I agree with Romeos mommy.. Riddick when he was a youngster, he got car sick every trip we made up to my hometown.. which was a 2 hr car ride. Once I put him up so that he could see out the window he never got sick again.. |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Our Yorkie has been to Arkansas, California and Montana and never got sick. We have the snoozer car seat for her so she can either sit up and look out the window or lay down and sleep. We also never feed her less than an hour before we hit the road. Make sure they aren't to warm or cold and give them a little air at times.

| aurora has a car seat and that helped some. We figured out that she gets herself so excited that she gets overheated. If we keep the air blowing on her, she does great. We all might freeze, but there is no pukey puppy...LOL

| I do well with Aurora getting overheated, its more my mom that suffers in the car with us. I get really bad back spasms and when its bad I get really really hot, so not horrible for me to have the air on LOL When my mom bought her new car (well new to her LOL) she liked that driver and passenger had seperate controls since me and aurora are in her car so much LOL

| Spike has never really had a problem with car rides, and we've made a couple of visits to my sister, who lives five hours away. The car seat is a great idea, if only to keep your pet safe in case of sudden stops. We got ours at PetSmart - the brand name is Outward Hound, and it was about $40 CDN. If your trip is 1 1/2 hours, is there somewhere you could stop, say halfway there, for some fresh air? I know that when I get car sick, fresh air helps a lot. My sister did have trouble travelling with her dog until he got used to the car trips, so her vet recommended a small dose of Gravol (or similar dimenhydrinate like Dramamine) before the trip. You would need to consult your vet for the recommended dose for your dog, because it does vary by weight. Also, if you can, try to take your dog out for shorter car rides before your longer trips. I found that it took Spike a while to get used to being in the car, so I would take him for some shorter car rides, and increase the distance gradually so he would get used to it. Good Luck! |
