Crate vs Playpen vs X-Pen..And Other Stuff No official puppy announcement yet, but I hope to have a little furbaby home by the end of October. I thought a little bit of planning and baby shopping while I wait would help to pass the time. I can use some advice. I used to live in a fairly small apartment with a kitchen which, when baby gated, made a perfect puppy area. I'm now living in a much larger apartment, without a central space that would make a good, safe puppy hangout. "Puppy" will likely be about 5 or 6 months old when he or she comes home and on the small end of the breed standard. What do all of you suggest? I lean toward a playpen but am I am I nieve to think that a 2# yorkie won't be up and out of it in a flash? Crates always remind me of little cages and don't seem as roomy as the playpen. And, I can't quite imagine a x-pen in the middle of the living room. Also does anyone know of a light harness that will work for a tiny dog. I don't want to use a collar. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!!!

Hi, I bought a great harness at walmart. It has velcro to enclose it which makes it very easy to put on and off of her. It's very strong too, and pretty!! I love it. As far as crates, vs playpens etc. I have been crate training my 12 week old but just purchased an ex-pen. I haven't used the ex-pen b/c of concerns about her climbing out. I did a post about it and most people responded that they love theirs so I think it's worth a try. Mine does great in her crate at night though.

I have a crate that tucker sleeps in at night. It is kinda like a den for them. They feel safe there. I originally did the crate training for housebreaking him but he has his xpen that he is in now when I am gone. It is great! he has never jumped out of it and he is a little over 4 lbs. Actually when we went up to our cabin this weekend I put or 20lb cockapoo in there just at night to sleep in and he didn't get out either. I also found a cute little harness at walmart. Probably the same one that blabblyb found there. They are a litttle less pricey than other pet stores. I believe if you do a post about a harness someone on here makes a silk one also but I can't remeber her name.

Great Yorkie Harness I found a fantastic, though pricey harness for Barclay my just under 4lb, 6 month old cutie boy who chewed through every other harness I bought!!! I put a small collar on my longtime love, Mugsie who was also small and lived to 16 and he ended up with a partially collapsed trachia because of it. So I have been on a search for a very sturdy, leather harness for little dogs and a specialty boutique here sold me one that I am crazy about- $38, very different design, but works great. [I think it is buddy-belts.com] It is so small on his collar I can hardly see it. I got the gold and you can glam it up with charms and it came in a lot of colors. My main thrill is, he can't get his little teeth under it to chew through it! YEA... and it's cute
