Default omg I can't believe I didn't notice this earlier!

Archie is loosing his tail hair from rubbing against the excess velcro on his belly band! He has like almost no hair on his tail!!! It must have irritated him to bite and pull his tail.

For those who have babies with tails that curl against the belly band may want to make sure it's not irritating the tail when they wag.

I feel like such a bad mommy I was wondering why his tail was getting thinner but never thought to take a look at his skin until now.

AAAWWWW don't feel like a bad mommy. I am so very sorry, but the good news is that hair grows back.

Shoot, I would never have thought of that, either. However, there is a very easy solution to the problem. Go to any store that sells sewing supplies and get some velcro.... cut a piece of the "soft" side (loop side) that will cover the "hard" (hook" side) that is excess.

Another solution would be to get a belly band that has the velcro going in the other direction (lengthwise with the band). I make mine this way because my little boy was also losing his hair but around each side of his waist where it would get caught on the sides of the band.

he's a very happy boy to be wagging his tail so much to have hair loss!!

ouchie...

I've never had excess, so I'm sorry. I have mine made length wise and all the velcro gets covered. Maybe order yours with an extra inch or two so it overlaps.

I don't have that problem, but I do have a problem with the belly band matting his hair. It's terrible, and I really hate to cut all his pretty hair off. He's just 8 mos. and since the lady I got him from (he was 4 mos.) had just had all his hair cut, its really not that long. Any suggestions to help with the matting??

Sorry .... I already buzzed Archie weeks ago for summer. He has awfully thick, thick hair. He was so hot and he still looks so hot right now.

But this would be good to know during winter time if anyone has any tips.

One suggestion would be to make sure that the band has flannel for the interior. Most say the flannel is the least matting - Also some like the satin lining but I think It depends on the fur - My Trixie has the cotton type and hers gets tiny mats with satin

PoosDarling - You have a few options with belly bands one would be to have the velcro switched so the loop is facing outward. Another is to get fitted bands that the velcro goes widthwise not lengthwise and third would be snaps - so no velcro at all to worry about. If you need additional help lmk I have been making Puppy Wraps for 5+ years. All makers of bands are different and some give more room for adjustment than others. all have pros and cons.
Good news is the fur will grow back - Just like a bad haircut - lol
Best of luck

ok..if you are talking about what my grandma called the (Grinds) groin area where legs connect....Smokey had that really bad and still has it a little...what is helping is put a touch of oil (any kind) right there after the bellyband is on so you are sure where to put it....not much at all....then when you change his bands put baby powder (the kind that is mostly cornstarch) on the bands....it has really helped with the irritation....also...i make Smokey's bands and to keep from rubbing...i put the scratchy part on top so it is turned toward the body....

Thanks for the suggestion...I'll try the oil or cowboy magic maybe & baby powder. I make Deuce's bellybands too, and I use a light weight fleece to go next to the body. He has a cottony coat, so like the other poster, I'm afraid satin wouldn't be any better. Maybe flannel would work better??

I will use a satin lining on my WWW for no extra charge.

I don't have any problem with my males matting, I make sure I comb there hair before I put a WWW on them. I also will slick the hair down to make sure it's laying nice and even.
