Default PetSafe Stationary Bark Control Device - Review

Our Buster would bark and yelp when we confined him and he couldn't be with us (either in his crate or in a washroom near our family room and kitchen). We tried the coins in the can, the spray bottle, and tapping him on the nose; nothing worked.

We bought a PetSafe Stationary Bark Control Device (PetSafe Stationary Bark Control Device PBC-1000 Kennel Vet) and it has worked VERY well to curb his barking.

If you read the reviews of this product on PetSmart.com, you'll notice that there are a lot of people who have not had success with this product, including a Yorkie owner or two. It seems from teh reviews that sometimes the dog is too stubborn to learn, and sometimes the machine is not sensitive enough to correct the barking.

The good thing is that the machine has a manual button so you can trigger the ultrasonic sound when you hear barking, even if it doesn't get triggered automatically. If you have a barker, I think it is well worth the $25 to give it a try.

If anyone thinks this machine is unnecessarily cruel (and has an idea of what would work better), please let me know.

I would have to agree that sometimes it isn't sensitive enough, but it is easy enough to use the manual button. I have had it for maybe a week now and it has made a huge difference. For the price I'm happy with it, I will be looking into something that is more sensitive if it loses its effectiveness though. The girls have learned that if we aren't near it it won't go off so they test the waters quite frequently. As far as it being cruel, its just an irritating noise that does not harm the dog in anyway.

I bought one and only the manual button worked, so it was useless unless someone was there to push the buttton. Then Dr's Fosters & Smith sent me a new one because there was some sort of a recall on them because of this problem. The new one worked for about 2 weeks, and then that one died too. I wouldn't recomeend it, but would love to hear suggesstions or reviews about other types of bark devices.

Default PetSafe bark thing

I have one. It worked well for a month but after that it just randomly would "go off" without any barking, and then would not react when someone barked. Also, we have multiple dogs and their sensitivity to the noise varied. Two of our girls would get very nervous when it was in use and I had one boy who could not have cared less. So what would happen is he would still bark and everyone would be punished. If I had him away from the others it kept everyone quiet (at least when it functioned correctly). I don't use it anymore unless "Be Quiet" is not working ; ) and when I do I use the manual button. Luckily our house is a good distance away from others (and our closest neighbor has a son with a hard rock band so we respect each others' noise LOL) so if they are barking when no one is home so be it.

this has already becoming ineffective for your dogs, I don't know if the battery is dying or if its just something they are ignoring but even our large dogs don't seem to notice it, and it only goes off when the manual button is hit. I really think this is still a good way to correct incessant barking. I will go buy a new battery and see if there is any change but I am indeed on the look for one that has an a/c adapter as I think that would help it be more effective.

We were told at Petsmart that device is not as effective, so we went with the outdoor treehouse one.

We picked it up yesterday. I have 2 dogs, Teddy and Laila. This unit seems to scare Laila like no other. She barked and ran out the door and into the garage! I have never seen her so scared. She hasnt made a sound since. We have tried to ring the doorbell, which in the past makes them go nuts. Not a sound so far.

So far it works, I just feel bad, she is so scared. Teddy seems to be pretty smart. He doesnt even flintch if the unit goes off, and still doesnt make a sound.

I bought one from PetEdge with an AC adapter. It works great, just not for stopping the barking. I'm going to try and return it. When it first sounded the dogs went running for it to see what it was. Now they act like they don't even hear it.
