| Has anyone heard of the "ChokeFree" Shoulder Collar? I found a brochure inside one of my local stores for the ChokeFree (Non-Choking Pet Collar for Dogs, Cats, Ferrets, Rabbits) Pet Shoulder Collar (Step-n-Wrap) and was wondering if anyone had heard of them or used them? My baby, is not home until Late-June but I want to make sure I buy her a harness as soon as possible. I've heard so many bad thing from using neck collars. That they will damage her trachea.

inches, but should have gotten the 17".....never the less, I'm happy with it. Oh, and the shipping was just $3.50. They have quite an array of colors and finishes, but we just got the plain red leather. Last edited by annabelle's mom; 05-11-2008 at 03:55 PM. | |

| This is probably going to be an unpopular thing to say, but I have to warn you. Scooter had a collar on last week out in the backyard. Thank goodness I was out there with him, because he ran back of the azaleas and all of a sudden he started screaming at the top of his lungs. Well, we bought this house a year ago, and the shrubs are really thick! I went tearing through and apparently the people who used to own the house had left a tomato cage back there and it had fallen over and gotten tangled in the shrubs. Scooter's collar was hung and the cage had twisted it and he was choking to death! By the time I got to him, he could no longer make a sound or move. Had I not been there, he would have died. I'll never forget those first screams. I got to thinking that the same thing could happen on low branches inside the shrubbery, so....no more collars for Scooter! Please be careful. |

| I got interrupted before I finished. I wanted to thank you for the warning. I know, I'm even afraid to leave Annie outside in our fenced yard without me watching her since there are so many warnings about dognappers. She loves to chase lizards, so we have to alot time for that several times a day !! Best regards, Eunice |

| A collar or harness "should" be used to keep their tag with name and number on at all times but it isn't safe to let them wear one or the other constantly either. A harness should be the only one used for walks and you can attach their name and number tag to it or let them wear a collar with tag on it. It's all up in the air for sure. I remember years ago when dogs always wore a little plain leather buckle collar 24-7, only getting it off for a bath, then right back on and never hearing of any problems. Now however it seems you hear of so many bad and scary things happening. Someone on YT even posted once that one of the dogs got their bottom jaw caught in the other dogs collar and actually lost some teeth trying to free himself. It's to the point now that one just doesn't know what to do. We all wan't our babies to have name and number on a tag in case they get out, but at what price? Right now, mine do not wear collars or harness while just around the house. I don't even let them outside unless I'm there with them. I even put the expen around the inside of the front door so they don't dash out. What a dilemma!! |

Do you collar... or don't you collar...??? Well, I think I might go with the "ChokeFree" Harness for walking and the collar for the name tags and of course she will be Micro-chipped. Thank you, "Annabelle's Mom" for trying out the ChokeFree and sending your feed back. It's was nice to see a message from you, but I just couldn't figure out how to find my original thread, to send a reply, until today (heheh). I "Was" a Newbie... But now I'm a "Yorkie Talker" it just took me some time to figure this site out... I Love It! So anyway... I'm home 24-7 so I will be able to watch her like a hawk. I live on the 2nd. floor of a Condo and I don't have the dilemma with bushes in my yard. Our grounds are full of grass and ivy plants (which she will not be going into because Ivy is poisonous) but she can play in the grass. I will be with her at all times... when her little feet touch the ground. My 2 cats both wear break-away collars and I leave them so loose that I never have to even unsnap them to take them off for their daily bushing's. They are so big I can just pull them off over their fat little heads. They wear them like a necklace and hate it when I take them off. So... I will try different things... since dogs are so different then cats. I'm glad I got some feed back on them and it makes me really think. Thanks to everyone that replied to this Original Thread by: "CorkenZola".

I guess I should have bought it on-line, like you did. I paid $30.99 plus tax. Wow! I paid too much! Oh well, I guess I can just think of it... as her getting a professional fitting. I now want to buy more of them in different colors. This way I will have ones to match her different outfits. Thank you again for sending me your experiences with the Choke-Free.

LOVE THEM!! I'll be sure I order them from "Paw Treasures" becuase I want more of them too. I only have one dog (Lola) but I want her to have different color, so that she will have some that match her other outfits. I have the Hot Pink Metallic one and it looks really nice againist her hair color. It brings out the reddish tones in her hair.
