| Dog or human shampoo I've read a lot of the threads on this subject, but I'm not sure. I bought some regular puppy shampoo at target for $3, but after reading all the threads I'm thinking it might dry out his coat. I'm not sure but I think my yorkie might be a cotton coat instead of a silky. Not sure if you can tell yet he's only 7 weeks (gonna be 8 weeks sunday), but it looks wavy. I use pantene curl revive shampoo (moisturizing) for my own hair. Can I use my shampoo on him? I plan to keep him in a puppy cut forever.

| Hi I am from Indianapolis! I have read that human shampoo has the wrong ph to it and can dry out a dogs coat. MY chachi has the cotton coat and I have found that the shampoos that they have at petco and places don't really work that well. I am gonna order Chris Christensen products which are highly reccomended on here.

| check out my thread from this morning. it's worth it to invest in the CC systems, because I bought that other crap it it made Chewy look awful Hope your pup is doing well and I wouldn't give too many baths at this age, they get very cold and nervous. Chewy is 5 months next week and he just got his first proper full soaked bath yesterday! It is a good idea however to keep their potty areas clean and give a little wipedown occasionaly with babywipes. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11035 |

| He doesn't really need a good bath yet I was just going to give him one to get him used to it. Any advise on removing eye boogers and cleaning private areas. He always bites me whenever I get my hand near his face. By the way I live in Bremen, IN. It's up by South Bend. It's about 2.5 hours straight up 31 from you chachi.

| I've been using the CC shampoo and Day to Day conditioner on Lexy and I love it! I still like Glo Coat better than Ice on Ice, but Ice on Ice is better for everyday combing! It doesn't seem to build up at all!

| Well, I was shocked when I learned my pup's breeder has always used human shampoo on her dogs. She has had 30 champions and their fur is gorgeous. (right now she uses panteen) When I was searching for a dog another breeder also told me she uses human shampoo. And a friend of mine that has a cotton coat Yorkie uses Panteen (plus conditioner, plus baby detangle) sooooo, I am wondering who has had bad experiences using the human shampoo? I gave Shelby her first bath with panteen, she looked gorgeous after but I am wondering how bad this is? What could happen? |

| Hi Logan's Mom. I'm not toooooo far from you (in Chicago). I have the $1 dog conditioner from Target and I LOVE IT! I've used about 1/4 of the bottle each time I've bathed Stewie. Its a small bottle and its cheap! I didn't like the conditioner, though. I use Pet Silk. I use a cotton ball and a tear stain remover from Petco to get rid of eye boogers on Stewie. I keep his butt trimmed to prevent "dingleberries". You can also use a tear-free (i use human baby) shampoo to wash near your pup's eyes. I wouldn't recommend using human shampoo all over their body though. It will dry out their coat for sure.

| I use Suave shampoo with conditioner followed by Pantene conditioner on my dog, and her coat isn't drying out or anything. It's silky and easy to comb out. I have a great trick for the eye boogers from my breeder. Drop a little visene on the area and comb it out with an eyebrow brush. It comes right out! |

| This quote is taken from: http://www.knowledge-finder.com/biol...-grooming.html. Always use a pet shampoo that is specially formulated for the pH of your pet's skin. Never use “people” shampoos since our skin pH level is much more acidic than our canine friends and could irritate your dog’s skin. This was taken from: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/pic/ar...d=179&aid=1059 Always use a shampoo formulated for dogs. Human shampoos have a different pH level and often use harsher detergents than pet shampoos. You can do more damage than good if you use a human shampoo on pets.

| When you say he's biting you when you go near his face... I think its just that puppy thing. Tino didnt do that, but my little girl does! My advice is to start with cleaning his face and teeth while he is young just so that he can get used to it now and will get better with it as he gets older. I don't know if I would bathe him at 7 weeks... I'd probably wait a little bc that is awfully young.

| I started out using baby shampoo on Reagan without conditioner and quickly found out that it works much much better with conditioner. Then I switched to a paul mitchell product from humans that I didn't like for myself. It never dried out her skin. Then I switched to a redken human product and LOVED the results, again no dry skin. I also tried MOP human products and also LOVED the results also this was the first that seemed to help with her mats, but it could've also just been her coat changing. I have heard from many that as long as you are using a good human product its fine but like Lisa I have also heard about the ph. I finally, however, broke down and tried a dog product, plush puppy. I'm happy with the results but honestly not any more so than when I was using some of the human products. I haven't tried the CC products yet and am waiting until I finish the plush puppy then will.

| I have always used dog shampoo on my dogs. When I was doing my research on yorkies before buying a yorkie for my mother (before I had yorkies) I found a site that said that since yorkies have hair rather than dog fur that it is best to use a good human shampoo. For 5 1/2 years I have been using human shampoo and conditioner on my yorkies. The best one that I have found is Paul Mitchell Baby Don't Cry shampoo. It works great and it is tear free. Then I use a good conditioner. I am currently using Fructies (sp?). I did have one of my dogs that had some flaking when he first started getting baths, but that cleared up after a couple of baths. I started bathing my dogs right away also. Not necessarily with shampoo (except my flaky one, lol), but just to get them used to the idea. I think that it helped them to be used to the water and all the grooming as they got older. |

| For a long time I used a good quality human shampoo on my Chattie. Very gradually, so much in fact that I did not realize it, her coat became dry and brittle. I now use Coat Handlers and love it. It was developed by people who own and show Yorkies. I think a lot of the premium shampoos that are mentioned here were developed by Yorkie folks. Anyway, her coat is on the road to recovery. Betweeb baths I use a product called Miracle Groom. It was originally developed for use on horses but it is a safe product full of moisturizers and vitamin E. |

| Hi, I used only manipulate dog shampoo on my babbies , and the results are marvelous. This shampoo was indicated by a breeder, that created this formula, because all the other products did not give the waited results. |

| I followed the advise of another YT member and tried the Baby Magic shampoo with milk conditioner and lavendar, and it works great on Duke. His coat is silky, it is always nice and shiney and easy to comb, and it does not dry out his skin. Duke loves his baths and always falls asleep a little while after his bath -- it must be the lavendar that calms him and makes him sleepy.
