| [News] London Yorkies Abandoned, Left to Die This is horrific! --- London, UK - TWO dogs died of starvation and a third was forced to feed on their corpses, a court heard. The Yorkshire terriers perished in squalor when they were abandoned without food or water in a Peckham flat. A third dog clung to life by turning cannibal and eating the others' corpses, Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court was told. She recovered when RSPCA inspectors broke into the home in Haymerle Road, after neighbours reported a bad smell. Hardened inspectors were left shocked at the dreadful scene that met them inside the flat in Furley House. The surviving dog was rushed to a vet to be treated for severe malnutrition. RSPCA inspectors tracked down the owner, Susan Poynter, 30, and prosecuted her for causing unnecessary suffering to animals. She admitted the offence. Magistrates banned her from keeping animals for 10 years and ordered her to carry out a 150-hour community punishment order. She was also put on probation for nine months. Poynter claimed she had moved out of the property when her partner went into hospital and could not take the dogs with her. RSPCA inspector Mark Miles rescued the surviving dog. He said: "These dogs were left to starve for months. She could have asked for help, rather than abandon them to their fate. "It was a horrible end for them and the poor dog that survived only did so by having to eat her companions. This is one of the worst cases that I have had to deal with." The surviving dog, renamed Betty, has since made a full recovery, and is at a new home. http://icsouthlondon.icnetwork.co.uk...name_page.html |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | How sad! I don't think the punishment fit the crime. What she did was horrid and knew what was going to happen to those dogs. I could not even imagine going through the deaths that those dogs did...and the one that turned canibalistic...just to survive.

| Oh that IS horrible! I don't even want to imagine what they went through. She should NEVER be able to own another animal ever ! Ya, just wonder, she must have cared out them at one point, to get three of them, how could you switch and end up doing that to your own animals? It blows my mind.

| OMG, She got off way to easy. There should be tougher punishments people like her. I wonder why she did not try to find them homes or take them to a shelter. |

| I guess they did all they could do to punish her, but for that crime it's not enough! I say she starves for months and see how she likes it!

| Good gracious, how horrible!!!! If she was willing to leave them the way she did, I wonder how she treated them when she actually lived with them! Not good I bet. I think they should pull all her nails off and dip her in salt water. That ought to hurt her!

| I cannot believe this!!! What is wong with people? The crazy thing about this is, how many people want yorkies but can't afford the cost of purchasing one? If she had 3 yorkies that she didn't want she could EASILY have found them loving homes and given them up. I wish law enforcement would start handing out jail sentences to people who do things like this to dogs. Hell, the more I think about it the more I believe that if you buy a dog you should be mandated to take a class in dog care and so forth. So sad |

| This is exactly why I do not watch Animal Cops anymore. It just makes me feel absolutely useless in being able to help poor innocent animals that end up in situations where humans do not act on their behalf. People can be so selfish an idiotic and it pisses me off. And whats worse is apparently in the eyes of the government, its hardly a crime to harm or kill an animal and all that any of these stupid a**holes ever get is "communtiy service". What kind of crap is that? I hope I live to see a day when people actually have to do hard time for harming or killing an animal, but I dont have faith in that part of the justice system.

| I cannot believe anyone could be this evil, the punishment certainly did not fit the crime. The thought of what those poor dogs had to go through is enough to move me to tears, I could never imagine something that horrific happening to my little man. She should have been jailed for a very long time! |
