PETA Steals Dog From Front Porch..... Saw this little article, on Huffington Post...how sad is this......does have some distressing stats worth taking note of. "A family in Virginia is looking for answers after they claim animals rights group PETA stole their dog and then killed it. Wilbur Cerate told WAVY this surveillance footage shows two workers taking his Chihuahua Maya from the family's front porch. (There was a video showing a truck backing up to the porch, a PETA worker jumped out, grabbed the dog from the porch, put it in the back of their "Rescue" van, and drove off.) He told the station, "I understand if they pick up my dog if it was in a tree or another place, but this is in my house." This happened in October and he says the workers came back a few days later with a fruit basket to tell him his dog had been euthanized and apologize. The workers were charged with grand larceny but those were later dropped because the video did not show criminal intent. On average, PETA euthanizes 2,000 dogs and cats each year at it's animal shelter in Virginia. The group has actively promoted a video explaining the organization's reasons for euthanizing animals. "In 2013, we euthanized 1,805 ferrell, sick, suffering, dying, aggressive and otherwise unadoptable animals." But Cerate says his dog wasn't in any position to be put down. PETA has refused to release any statement about the incident." Gosh....no criminal intent shown by these workers? Guess they would have had to show a sign saying they were there to steal the dog so they could murder it..... All y'all that let your little dogs outside unsupervised, had better be super vigilant....watch out for predators from the sky, from the woods, thieves roaming the neighborhood.....and I guess now PETA too, as they now take dogs right from porches and yards! |
I would have shot her on sight when she brought a fruit basket after murdering my dog. |
I'm so sad about this. Though stories like this no longer shock me, they do leave me wondering where is the outrage. People are coming into our homes to take away our pets without proof this will benefit them. |
"The workers were charged with grand larceny but those were later dropped because the video did not show criminal intent." Yet if someone steals a package off my front porch that is theft. |
Why did the guy wait for them to come back "a few days later?" Did he try to do anything to get his dog back in the meantime, during the hold time? |
It did not say anything about any hold time...he may not have known who backed a truck up, and jumped out and took his little dog from his front porch....he probably knew who took his dog when they showed up again 3 days later, with a fruit basket and apology! Who in the world would imagine PETA would steal a dog from private property and then put it down? THAT thought did not even occur to ME, and I am very skeptical of their agendas, etc! The thought of a "hold time" probably would not even enter their thoughts, as the dog was not lost or running the streets....you dont imagine a rescue that "loves and respects animals and operates for the ethical treatment of animals" would tresspass and steal your pet from your yard......does this mean they can come to your yard, take your dog, "hold" it for 3 days and then put it down because they are getting too crowded? |

How can stealing someone else's dog with the intent of killing it not indicative of criminal intent? Aren't the acts, apparently shown in the video, of the thieves trespassing on his private property, going onto the porch of his dwelling, taking and leaving with his very own dog, the very definition of criminal intent, not to mention the actual criminal act of actually removing his dog from his property against his will and without his permission? And then, once they have done that, they kill it(!!!!!!), admit to it and grand larceny charges are dropped and they are not charged with purposefully killing the dog????? There is something very fishy about this part of the story. Hope that guy sues them and how can he not win in civil court. |
Maybe the take home message in the story is that we can't leave anything unattended on our property. If someone wants something you have they need only take it and the burden of proof of wrongdoing rests with you. My Yorkies are never, ever left unattended, inside or outside of my house. Yes, there is a very big burden attached to having this intensive coverage of my own home. |

If I would have "gone the long route", my response may have not sounded like I was insinuating you were not understanding what was being said. I am trying to post on here without being chastised for offending English Grammar 101, so it is better for me to be as brief as possible.....and THAT leads to its own problems! (Let me go up and divide this paragraph into two so I dont get called out again on THAT!) I have another question...in Houston, we do not call PETA to come out for strays, we call animal control. Is it even possible that a neighbor would call PETA to pick up a stray?? I was not aware PETA did that service. |
If they ever come onto my property my 2 best friends will greet them! By the way, my friends names are Mr. Smith & Mr. Wesson! |

I am not familiar with PETA or their thoughts, values, etc. I have never heard anything nice about them, though. They are usually in the news for throwing paint on celebrities who wear fur. If this article is true, then it's absolutely horrifying and disgusting. I don't know if it's true in the US, but in the UK, you cannot get insurance or a job if you claim to be a member of PETA or Green Peace as they are thought of as radical organizations. I always wondered about that so maybe there's something to it after all? Insurance companies suck but they do their research. |
