[News] Arrest in theft of 80-year-old woman's Yorkie A man has been arrested for allegedly robbing an 80-year-old woman of her Yorkshire terrier in Alameda, but a second suspect and the dog haven't been found, authorities said Friday. Christopher Perkins, 19, was arrested at a Stockton apartment Thursday night in connection with the robbery of Helen Bignone, said Alameda police Detective Aaron Hardy. The robbery happened Saturday afternoon near Encinal Avenue and Fountain Street, when two men confronted Bignone as she walked with her dog, Deuce. One of the men acted as if he had a gun and demanded both the dog and her purse, police said. When Bignone refused, one of the men pulled the leashed dog away from her while the other grabbed her purse, police said. The men fled in an Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, which police have found, Hardy said. The second suspect is still being sought. The men used Bignone's credit cards at two East Oakland gas stations, the Coliseum Shell station near Interstate 880 and the Valero station on 98th Avenue near Interstate 580, police said. There were signs that Deuce had been in the Stockton apartment, but Perkins told officers that he had already sold the dog, Hardy said. Police believe Deuce may be in the Stockton, Tracy or Sacramento area. Perkins said the person who bought Deuce did not know the dog was stolen, according to police. Perkins is being held at Alameda City Jail in lieu of $110,000. He was booked on suspicion of robbery and possessing a stun gun at the apartment. Bignone voiced optimism that her beloved pet would be found. "They're working so hard on it, I believe they're going to get him back, I really do," Bignone said, adding that she was "delighted" by the arrest. "They have one of them, and I think they will have the other one," Bignone said. "I believe they will stay on it." The stolen dog, a 6-year-old male, has a microchip implant that can identify it. Anyone who wishes to donate to a reward fund can write a check made payable to "Deuce Reward" and deposit it at Bank of Alameda, 1416 Park St., Alameda, CA 94501. Anyone with information about the dog's whereabouts is asked to call Alameda police at (510) 337-8340. Read more: Arrest in theft of 80-year-old woman's dog |
I'm so glad they caught one of them. I really hope they get the other one too, but even more so, I pray she gets her baby back. |
YaHoo! lets hope they stay on it and find her dog! |
I hope she gets her dog back. I hope these punks get locked up and they throw away the keys!!!!!!!! |
I'm thinking they probably sold the lil guy to someone in the area where they live. They wouldn't have gone too far. I hope and pray she gets Deuce back. I'm certain they are both terribly heartbroken. |
account number given is NOT correct! I was just at the Bank of America on Park St. in Alameda. They do not know the correct account number (I have a call in to the officer in charge of the investigation who is supposed to call me back with more info). But in the meantime, do NOT send checks to that bank, because they cannot and will not deposit them. I know, I tried! |
Glad they made an arrest! I hope whoever bought the dog will see the news reports and come forward. ETA: To EdNIz above, the address said Bank of Alemada, not Bank of America. Maybe that's the reason they can't find that account? |
So glad to hear they made an arrest! I sure hope they get Deuce back for the lady. Then I hope they throw the book at those two! I htink they are accumulating enough charges along the way, they may go to jail for a loooong time! Hope so anyway. Hopefully the news shows out that way are giving this enough local exposure if anyone bought Deuce, they will see that he belongs to someone else and turn him in. Hopefully we have so many YT members from CA they can question any new yorkie owner and make sure they know this story. |
I can't belived they will go after a poor helpless 80 yr, and on top of that take her poor dog. I hope someone that knows anything on this will came forward and do the right thing and retured the dog. bark@ulater!!!!! manina, miley:aimeeyorkmax:aimeeyork |
Hopefully all the vets in the area will have been notified to be on the lookout for a new patient with a Yorkie that fits the description. |
I swear, there are some people who just do not care about anyone but themselves. I am thankful that Ms. Bignone was not killed or seriously injured. I am also thankful that they got one of the guys. I do hope that Ms Bignone gets Duece back! |
how horrible! ): i hope they find her baby! |
Now the creep says he turned the dog loose in a park. I'd like to see him turned loose in a park full of dog owners. Suspect now says he let stolen dog loose in park |
this is so sad. i really hope they get her poor Duece back to her...poor lady. you can have my money but don't take my dogs that's a lot worse than the money or purse to me. |
