[News] Brave little Yorkie 1 Attachment(s) TWIGGY the Yorkshire terrier, whose life hung in the balance after she was mauled by another dog, is now recovering at home. Ten-year-old Twiggy needed to have one of her legs and shoulder blades amputated after she was savaged by a bull mastiff-cross dog while being walked in Charminster. Her owner Paul Jones, of Nortoft Road, Charminster, has now issued a heartfelt message of thanks to all those who helped save her life. “Amazingly she seems to be getting back to her normal self,” he said. “But that is down to the wonderful care she received from all the team at Companion Care. “They all went out of their way to make sure she was all right.” He believes he knows whose dog it was that attacked Twiggy but said efforts to talk to them have proved fruitless. As a result, he has been left with a massive bill. “This has just been a horrendous experience for Twiggy and for us. “I hate the thought of anyone else having to go through this,” he said. Vet Tom Mowlem, of Companion Care Bournemouth, said: “Her injuries were very nasty and she was lucky to survive. “After the second operation, when we were really worried, she has made an excellent recovery and in the long-term she will be fine. “But it’s obviously been very traumatic for her and her owners. “We do see a significant number of dog bite injuries every year and they are normally when dogs are not under proper control. “Legally, a dog owner is responsible for any damage their dog causes but it’s not always easy to pursue that.” Brave little Yorkie that survived vicious dog attack in Bournemouth (From Bournemouth Echo) |
This is such a brave little dog with a big spirit that wanted to live. Bless her little heart. I hope her owner finds the owner of the dog that attacked her, and sues them. It seems like there are just way too many dogs on the loose in KY, and TN. Those states needs some strick laws and harsh punishment for those that don't abide by them. |
That is a brave little girl! She is very lucky to be alive! Makes me sick to think what happened to her. It is all of our worst nightmare to think of it happening to our babies. I hope you don't mind me sharing this on FB. |
im glad she survived.it makes me happy :). |
I dont mind at all you sharing it. |
What a strong willed, loved, cherished, pretty Furbaby!!!!!!! I am amazed at her will to survive!!! |
LOVE THAT PICTURE. No wonder our dogs are good for us. Looking at that makes me realize that with love and care we can all do amazing things. Good for Twiggy and good for you. Keep on taking care...you know it will pay lifelong dividends. |
I'm so glad this precious little thing is okay. It's such a shame she had to lose her little leg because of some irresponsible dog owner. But thank goodness she has such a loving, caring owner and other compassionate people to take care of her. This is exactly why I'm afraid to walk my dogs in my neighborhood. We have too many loose dogs running around. It's just not worth it. |
What an incredibly brave and sweet little girl. I worry all the time about mine to the point of being over protective sometimes, but after seeing this ... I will definitely not change. |
I am in the UK and my Stanley wasn't so lucky yesterday, he was mauled by a German Shepherd and was killed outright. I tried to protect him but the other dog just went between my legs and I couldn't help my baby. I am so upset I can't even talk to the man who owns the German Shepherd. I had to take Stanley to the pet crematorium this morning and leave him there, the owner of the dog has told neighbours that he will pay the bills but saying and doing are two different things. I have reported the attack to the police but have been told I cant do anything, but then other people have told me different today, but I can't find any information on UK law relating to this kind of thing. If anyone knows anything at all please could you let me know, I just don't know where to turn. |
So glad to see yet another brave little yorkie - it seems the smaller they are, the braver they are! We lost our little one a few years ago after our neighbour's two Jack Russel's attacked her - HORRIBLE experience! We have two little ones now and the smallest just survived a fall down our stairs and had to have a cyst in the brain drained - which was the cause of her becoming disorientated.. WHAT a nightmare - no money will ever be spared to save the lives of these dear little creatures that become such a part of ones life! GOOD LUCK and all the best with your little one, she seems like a real trooper! :) |
Bless you Twiggy and good luck to you and your owner(s). I hope the the owner of the dog that mauled you does the honorable thing and pays for your bills. People need to be accountable for the actions of their dogs. I realize money will not compensate you and your owner(s) for what you have been through. But I can tell from your photo that you are a happy and very loved dog who must give great joy to your owner(s). I wish you all the best. I worry about my Buster Brown who loves dogs of all sizes. I will keep an even closer eye on him after seeing your story. |
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your Stanley. I realize nothing will compensate for the loss of your beloved companion. The owners of large dogs need to keep them under control. It is not a valid excuse to say that the large dog saw the small Yorkie as prey. As an owner we are resposible for the training and control of our dogs. If you can't control your dog then it should not be allowed to run free. |
