| I am so happy that the dog isn't going to be PTS. I don't really blame the parents (to err is human), but I do think that the dog didn't mean to hurt the baby. The parents should have been prepared - how long does it take to get a baby monitor? I also believe that babies should be with their mothers. When a baby is away from his mother, he feels extreme pain and discomfort. Babies shouldn't be put in cribs and nurseries, they should be with you. Anyway, I am happy that the baby is going to be alright and that Dakota isn't going to be put down.

| The dadsaid as soon as he heard his wife scream he immediatly ran outside. Which I thought was a bit bizarre. I hope that poor baby is going to be ok. They said it had 2 skull fractures, broken ribs, collapsed lung, several lacerations. They had to replace all of the babies blood because it had lost so much. My God what a horror. I also believe the dog meant no harm or he would have killed that baby right there in the babies room. He was just doing what dogs do. What a horrible situation.

| Now that they know this was a hybrid wolf dog, I can see the owner knew little about the dog he had in his house. I found this very interesting and some parts really mirror what happened. Ark Animals Wildside: Wolf Dog Hybrids Canine Series Part 5

| Does anyone know where a news clip is that announces this is a wolf hybrid? I'd like to see it.

| SIDS is sudden, only seconds to happen. Tragically, my little cousin died from this--she was in the same room with her parents--they noticed she was turning blue, called the ambulance and it was still too late. It was an accident, they didn't think/know the dog would do something like this. I feel bad for the parents, they are going thru a tragic time-- imagine the guilt you would feel if you were in their shoes. You have a dog that gets along well with your other kids, you put the baby down in the nursery, thinking he's safe--all the parents on here, can you say you've never put your child in the bedroom/other room and went to make dinner, go to the bathroom, do laundry, etc??? Even if they had a monitor--that dog probably grabbed him and ran. What if the parents had been in the same room taking a nap with the baby and this happened?? Thank God they were checking on him, and found him in a timely manner. I pray that the baby will be okay and that the parents can forgive themselves for this tragic accident. |

| They upgraded the baby from critical to serious late yesterday and seem to think it will continue to improve. there is a big controversy here locally over if this in fact a wolf hybrid. Some newspeople say it is. Animal contro is only sure of one thing. They have never heard of a dog like this before. |

| I find it a little disturbing how the media keeps pointing out that it was a wolf/dog hybrid that did this, when in reality ANY dog (or cat for that matter!) is capable of doing harm to a small infant if they are left unsupervised. That really ought to be the focal point of a tragedy like this rather than turning it into a BSL issue. Penny is wonderful with children, but even knowing her, I would never leave a baby unattended if she could get at him. Any animal has the potential to have their instincts kick in at any time, and infants make strange sounds, smell funny, and certainly do not command the sort of respect that an adult human or even an older child can demand of a dog. We choose to live our lives beside these beautiful, intelligent creatures with predatory roots, and we need to respect that and always take that into consideration when bringing them near smaller animals-- smaller humans included!

| We have a Native American Indian dog that comes to board where I work. I had never heard of the breed before. It does have wolf in it's ancestory. I don't know if legally it's considered a wolf hybrid but they are very large and look like wolves. I hope it's not put down. People need to be more responsible with their children especially around dogs. Any pet can injure a child. It's the parent's responsibility to keep them safe.
