I watched this video in utter disblief. It is just too odd the way the mother and father are alleging that this happened. How can you not know this is going on if you are contientious about your 3 day old child's well being. I saw on the video that it was a large home, big dog etc. But, how could that dog even jump in the crib without waking that baby. I don't think he could have, someone had to hear the baby crying. Just suppose the 3 day old baby was upstairs in that large house they certainly would have had a baby monitor to hear the baby crying or possibly see the room on a tv monitor. Who puts a 3 day old baby upstairs away from them anyway? No one but negligent people. I can remember checking my children and grandchildren at that age many times while they were sleeping just to see if they were still breathing. The parents should be charged with felony criminal neglect or child abuse. It is their responsibility to make sure the baby is safe.Hopefully they won't make an impulsive decision and uthenize the dog, he should be rehomed. In my opinion this dog may not be the most culpable in this incident. I hope the baby will survive with no live long repercusions from the tragic tragic things that have happened.

Oh that poor baby. I hope he survives the ordeal. I think the dog needs to be rehomed, and not euthanized. He was treating the baby as a puppy and did not viciously attack the baby. Plus they say he's fine with their other children. I think sadly the parents are to blame here. how are they not keeping tabs on a 3-4 day old baby every few minute? where is the baby monitor? how could they not hear the baby cry? i'm sure that baby was crying when the dog picked it up in his mouth. sad...very sad...

I watched the interview of this poor father this morning on the news...I think he's still in shock & disbelief of this horrible ordeal.

From what he stated, he said that he & his wife were down stairs no more than two minutes starting to write up a list of things that still needed childproofing around the house. Their infant son had been born 3 weeks premature and they were still in the midst of preparing for his birth at the time of his early arrival.

In anycase, accidents do happen and if I could fault them for anything, it is not thinking ahead to at least prepare for a barrier from their dogs & their new baby that they had at least 8+ months to prepare for. Given that...like most new parents these days, it's understandable that some things can get put off till the last minute...and unfortunately their last minute arrived even earlier than they could foresee.

I personally want to believe that this family pet was doing as the father suspects...playing with a new found toy and went off to perhaps bury it (gulp!) and for that reason...I could not vote for putting this animal down. He did not act out in a normal pet aggression type scenario...jmho.

Hopefully, this tragedy will be a lesson to those who procrastinate (me included) to plan & follow thru long before the last minute...it could actually save a life...two, infact should their pet have to be put down!

This happened about twenty miles from me. baby is doing well and the dog was playing as he would a stuffed toy. he will not be PTS but adopted by a family with no children after he is out of quarantine. or at least that is what my local news is saying.

This is really sad. I feel horrible for everyone! Maybe the baby didn't make a sound...well, the baby couldn't have made a sound or they would have heard it. Anyway, you know how fast a dog can move to grab a piece of meat off a table...1 second. If that dog really wanted the "toy" he'd get in and out as quick as possible...

Premature baby = less time to prepare...

They had no clue this dog would do this I'm sure.

I agree with you totally if the dog is going to be put down the parents should be put down to for leaving a four day old baby upstairs by himself.Have they never heard of sids.

It is a beautiful dog. It doesn't sound like the dog was trying to kill it. I don't think the people should keep the dog but perhaps it could be turned over to Best Friends Animal Shelter in Utah if they will take it.

This is from wikepedia.org

[edit] Breed-specific legislation

The wolfdog hybrid has been the center of much controversy for much of its history, and most breed-specific legislation is either the result of the animal's perceived danger or a categorization as protected native wildlife.[8] The Humane Society of the United States, the RSPCA, Ottawa Humane Society, the Dogs Trust and the Wolf Specialist Group of the IUCN Species Survival Commission consider wolfdogs to be wild animals and therefore unsuitable as pets, and support an international ban on the private possession, breeding and sales of wolf-dog hybrids.[9] [10][3] According to the National Wolfdog Alliance, 40 U.S. states effectively forbid the ownership, breeding and importation of wolfdogs, while others impose some form of regulation upon ownership.[11] Most European nations, as well as many U.S. states and municipalities, also either outlaw the animal entirely or put restrictions on ownership
