| [News] Petland Investigation in Iowa It's beyond me how a Petland recently opened in West Des Moines, Iowa - the people in this one area of the suburb tried to stop a Wal-Mart from opening in their precious neighborhood, but did nothing when Petland was coming. But sure enough now there are dying pups - one of the local TV stations aired a 2-part investigation - you can view 2 videos here: http://www.whotv.com/Global/SearchRe...wss&qu=petland Want to comment on the story - go to this page http://www.whotv.com/Global/category...&nav=menu100_5 then click on - Hot Topic Blog: Petland selling sick puppies? Personally I believe you can tell this store owner/manager is lying Channel 13 Investigation: Petland Accused of Selling Sick Puppies Updated: March 14, 2008 01:09 PM March 12, 2008--It's only been a couple of months since the Petland in West Des Moines opened its doors, but since then, Channel 13 has received a number of complaints the store is selling sick dogs. "This whole time she was having seizures and it ended up getting worse. She ended up foaming at the mouth going into convulsions," says Jessica Halbrook. Jessica and her husband John bought their Siberian husky, Giada on January 23rd. Three weeks later, Giada got so sick, the Halbrooks were forced to put her down. Two more dogs purchased at Petland were also diagnosed with parvo, one of the most severe and lethal diseases a dog can get. One veterinarian told the store's owner, Tim Mohrfeld, to quit selling dogs for two weeks. But Mohrfeld decided otherwise, "We went completely through our kennels did a bleach solution, took recommendation from several vets on how to approach it and haven't had a problem since." Tune in to the Channel 13 News at Ten tonight, when Sonya Heitshusen will show you where some of Petland's puppies are being bred.

| I'll try not to rant here, but it makes me so damn sick. Not only are all these puppies in pet stores from puppy mills but to say "Oh we'll give you another puppy" just makes my blood boil. The parents of these puppies suffer beyond suffer. It's unimaginable how these mill dogs have to try to survive. Nothing but human greed for the almighty dollar. Our third yorkie is a ex mill dog survivor. Please don't buy puppies from pet stores and when you see them all cute and cuddly just think of their parents. Females are bred at every heat and when they can no longer have puppies they dispose of them. Human GREED!!!! |

| it's kinda crazy that this had come out. I had actually gotten a yorkie (Kylie) from there and she ended up going back after a week due to a collapsing tracheae and she stopped eating and had kennel cough after being vaccinated from it already, she just wouldn't get better. (i heard she got better after we took her back.) I had also heard that another yorkie from there had passed within the first week the family had him. very sad. I now know that i'm only going to go through a reputable breeder for another puppy in the future.

If I had known this place was coming - I think I learned about it opening like 3 weeks before the doors opened -- I would have been out there protesting, educating anyone who would have listened. I didn't even know when there opening day was, until a few days after they opened. I would have loved to have been there on opening day & handed everyone walking in there a flier on the horrors of Petland

| I had no idea how bad petland was until after I got Lucy from there, luckily for me she's healthy and now that I know (thanks to YT) how horrible petland and pet stores that sell animals are, I refuse to shop there. and I warn as many people as I can about how horrible puppy mills and pet shop pups are. Hopefully, these investigations will lead to these stores being shut down.
