| Praying it passes in Illinois and spreads west to Iowa -- and everywhere across this country. Just wish it also stopped the sale of these dogs to pet stores!

| What about the law of unintended consequences? I don't want to rain on the parade or anything but might this make backyard breeding more profitable? More individual facilities means that the chances of finding and closing the worst of them is much less likely. I agree with the spirit of the legislation, I'm just hesitant to think that passing the law would have the outcome that is expected. If we were to completely outlaw the breeding of companion animals in the states there would be plenty of animals ready to be shipped in from other countries. Where there is a market...there will be a producer. And the other countries don't give two hoots what we think about how the breeding stock should be treated. As with anything it can only be regulated so far and then it's driven out of the country where it can't be regulated at all....this solves nothing.

| I agree, I know of a couple of breeding programs that are very well run and are bigger than 20 animals. They are headed up by honest and ethical people who create jobs for others and give the dogs a good life. Is it as good as the life of a family pet? well I guess that depends on which family. There are people out there that don't breed and yet treat their animals horribly. Establishing basic standards, and I mean very basic, seems to be the fairest approach, without respect to how many animals a person owns, or whether they practice husbandry. If the fact that money changing hands causes one person to be under closer supervision than another, we have missed the original point. If we can't influence society to act better, to be more responsible, and can we say it here? Be Moral People? Then all the rules and regulations do is decide who makes the money.

| Puppy Brokers! LAMBRIAR AND HUNT I am new to this site and not sure where exactly this should be posted, but I think it needs to be everywhere. I was wondering why no one ever discusses puppy brokers in the PUPPY MILL discussions. It seems that many of these pet stores either LIE or just don't really understand. These pet stores swear up and down they do not purchase from Puppy Mills, and in fact many of them do not. Apparently there are TWO major Puppy Brokers Lambriar and HUNT. These are the puppy "transporters". These brokers DO buy from the puppy mills. And then sometimes these little puppies, ripped from there mommies way too young, spend days sometimes weeks in large trucks being transported across the country! IT IS SICKENING! I bought my baby 3 years ago. After he got sick quickly, I began to do alot of research, including calling the National Humane Society and learned just how this works. I tracked down my "breeder" who told me he sold the puppy to Lambriar for $400. Well I paid $2000 because there are so many middle men in the process. While it is critical to continue raising awareness about puppy mills, it is also imperative to expose this part of the business linking the puppy mills to the pet stores. In addition, the government allows certain Puppy breeders to be USDA approved. What I learned is these "backyard breeders" are perhaps one step above the "traditional puppy mills. This is a huge business!!! Unfortunately, I learned the hard way. There is a lemon law in most states which says you can get your money back from the Pet store and you can keep the dog! I didn't know that, and there was no way I was giving Nobu back. Our vet bills have been astronomical, but the love I have for him makes it all worth it. I made the mistake of walking into a pet store, without an intention of purchasing a dog....BIG MISTAKE! We MUST stay our of the PET STORES all together, and the public must be educated on theses MIDDLE MEN! They too deny having ties to puppy mills! LIES!!!!
