| [News] Family Says Petland Ripped Them Off This story aired last night - of course this involves the famous Petland - why can't all these places be shut down! Pop Up Video Wish I seen it - last night, because apparently people were going to protest this afternoon & I would have gladly joined them - but we just got 5-plus inches of snow last night/this morn - so wonder if the protest was held This same TV station did a series on them last spring - I posted then, and they make referrence to that in the preview of this new rip-off story - here's a link to the stories if you want to watch all of them. They even followed the pups to a specific puppymill: http://www.whotv.com/Global/SearchRe...wss&qu=petland

| That's just horrible. Petland gives people a false sense of security, especially when they use the phrase "USDA approved breeder". People should be better informed on adding a pet to their family. |

| Sorry - I thought the second link I posted would take you to the old video of the Petland investigation - it does take you to the stories, just not the video. I just called the tv station & inquired about the link to the old video, the reporter that answered the phone couldn't locate it either, but he said I should write the station & ask that the video be put back up from previous Petland stories to link it to the current issues. So as soon as I find out if they will do that, I'll let you know. Also, I asked the reporter if they covered the protest today - and he said Yes, so when they post that video - I'll include the link. Those poor souls had to be freezing it is about 17 degrees out with a windchill of much below that

| I'm pretty sure "USDA approved breeder" is one of these titles that puppymills can get with little effort. Buying a dog? Beware of breeder - Health- msnbc.com

| Thanks for posting this, I didn't get a chance to watch it last night. I hate PetLand, I've never been there and don't plan to go and tell everyone I know to stay away also. Maybe, it's for the best that little girl didn't get her puppy, might have been more heartache down the road if it turned out not to be healthy like the ones I have heard about |

| Helloi I'm new to the Yorkie community here. My Yorkie is 3 years old and his name is Tiki. So far he is a good dog but he destroys every toy that I buy him. The only thing that last is the rubber rings or the one called Kong. I would love for him to have a stuffed toy but I can't because he rips them apart within minutes of getting them. Is this a common behavior? When I occasionally leave him overnight at Pet Smart Hotel he just goes crazy when I pick him up. They tried him in their doggy play hour and he apparently did not do well so when I leave him he has to get the individual play time and not with the group. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong. |

I do not think you are necessarily doing anything wrong. Do you ever socialize Tiki with other dogs? I'm thinking if he isn't used to being around other dogs that this is overwhelming for him to go to the Pet Hotel. But it may just be his reaction to being left by you & separated from you - sometimes that is more than they can handle. As far as the chewing a lot of people have this issue with their yorkies - my Roxy used to destroy every plush toy - not immediately but she would destroy the squeeker as fast as she could. I started making a big deal about the toy being hurt & she stopped destroying them -- she actually seems to enjoy her toys more now. Also, there is a plush toy that is supposed to be much hard for them to destroy - I'll have to see if I can find the name of it. It's not fuzzy - it's made out of more canvas material

| Interesting this is coming up again. If anyone remembers.. I actually got a yorkie there last year.. Kylie.. who had a colapsing trechea at 8 weeks old.. I'm totally against petland now. they are way overpriced. 1800 for a yorkie with a few champs in line and possibly inbreeding in great grandpup lines... so not worth it. she was going to be about 6 lbs and they kept telling me that she would be small like 4 lbs.. sorry if she's 2 lbs at 8 weeks.. not going to happen. Don't get me wrong, she was sweet pup and i miss her everyday, but I now have my Izzy pup and she's my baby!! Petland did give me all my money back, we had kylie for a week and i had to take her to the vet 4 times within that week. no vet bills either since things were covered.. just driving from ames to des moines sucked.

| Wow! I've never heard of a rip off like that before. I'm surprised since she was quoted the price specifically for that dog and it sounded like there also was a sign with the same price listed; then Petland should have sold the dog for that price. Whether a miscommunication of price or not, the error was on the part of the store and rather than try and raise the price to the supposed "correct" price, they should have let her have the puppy for the initial quoted price. Unbelievable! They are obviously in it for the money only. This really blatantly shows that. That is really awful, they should be shut down as far as selling animals, that is. |

| We have Petland too here in canada and it is so obvious where they get their dogs from i purposely went in there a short while ago and in conversation asked one of the young workers where these dogs were from..they had so many different breeds all puppies, she told me their manager personally picks them up from the different breeders they use. yeah right!!!..one of the many puppy mills..i refuse to buy anything in there and would love to see them exposed for their wrong doing and shut down.

| That's terrible. I wish those stores would be closed down. It's just horrible seeing those puppies in there. I'd be doing the same thing as that lady did. I would never accept his apology. That manager was probably just making info up because he was being put on the news. |
