This is a great idea IF you Vet or Groomer would allow it...most won't.

I also invested as others have in their own Grooming supplies and do it myself now for my girls & fosters.

This particular groomer did not even bother to tell me about it then I noticed her shaking, likely in pain, when I brought her home and on inspection I saw the lacertation. I called them up right away to discuss the matter and they really were not even that sorry at the time. I was so angry and sad for Shasta. After that incident then I decided I'd learn to groom her myself. I don't do a perfect job but at least I know my babies will be safe with me. Also, I think the more you groom them the faster it becomes, as you become more proficient and comfortable with the process.
wow cory, that is a shocker. i must look into doing it myself. i didn't know that some groomers put them in tub full of water. mine washes them in the tub but uses a hand shower to rinse

There's actually a YT member who posted a YouTube video of herself grooming her Yorkie and that's how I started!

I'll see if I can find it if somebody else can't...

That is truely heartwretching! I too groom my babies at home b/c of groomers like that!! I couldn't leave my babies in thehands of some stranger! I have been a lurker for a couple of years before I bought my babies and I read so many groomer horror stories on here and other Yorkie related sites. OMG! I have never had my kids in daycare either b/c I left my son alone at an Ikea store daycare and after 5min. of being in their care he was rushed to the emergency room!! Never again will any of my precious babies be left alone with strangers!!!

I stay and watch my babies being bathed and groomed. If they do not allow me to watch the process I take my business elsewhere. i have yet to encounter a place that doesn't allow me to atleast make sure there is a hand on my baby at all times, as I understand that some dogs are more anxious when mom is around ( I think it's more the groomer who is anxious LOL I know I'd be but after hearing about the dog that caught fire b/c of it being left in the kennel with a faulty hair dryer ... NO WAY). Then again I usually bathe and groom my own furkids.

It just breaks my heart for that poor little dog. I own a dog grooming business and I am always sooo careful with every dog I groom. I never leave any dog unattended. There is just no excuse for this to happen.

I know I am new here but this just convinced me not to leave my yorkie or probably never take him to a groomers. Everyone knows how tiny they are and that they can have collapsable tracheas, why would you leave him like that? It is so heartbreaking....my pup is 8 pounds and he thinks he can jump from anything or anywhere.....they have to be watched like babies!!! I will never take mine to a groomer now.....

Unhappy Just to Sad

That would have broke my heart, I agree my yorkies are my children, and I would have lost it. I am so glad I do not bring my yorkies to a groomer. I just trim them. Love the long hair. So sorry for the loss.

Unhappy

This is such a heartbreaking story. I find it hard to believe she only left it for a "second" and yet when she came back he was dead. It would take quite a bit to suffocate to death and be quite painful. Also, why on earth would they not call the owners and rush the dog to the emergency vet to see if anything possible could have been done.

It's appalling that she thinks this won't negatively affect her business, and she won't fire that worker, despite how sorry and "scarred" she is.

Horrible.

I trust my groomer but this still makes me leery about taking them back next time.

Im so glad i started to groom myself as well, this is just one of the things im trying to avoid. I have my Paris so used to it now she lays very nicely and lets me do just about any thing, at least if shes hurt its by my hand and not the irresponsibility of someone else.
