No Longer a Member | [News] Loose Pit Bulls Kill yorkie Owner cited after loose pit bulls kill Yorkie Sun-News report Article Launched: 05/06/2008 12:00:00 AM MDT LAS CRUCES — The owner of two pit bulls that allegedly attacked and killed a Yorkshire Terrier in the Four Hills area has been cited for unrestrained animals, police spokesman Dan Trujillo said. police said. About 9 p.m. Friday, two pit bulls came into Jan Madrid's back yard and viciously attacked her daughter's Yorkshire Terrier, Scrappy. The attack took place while the family watched, unable to intervene for fear of their own safety, she said. Las Cruces police were called to the address in the 3300 block of Neptune Drive, according to police reports. The Yorkie was killed and the yard damaged during what Madrid said was a hour-long battle between the two pit bulls and three animal control officers. Trujillo said animal control officers located the pit bulls, which he described as being "more elusive than aggressive." The animals were taken to Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley where the owner claimed the dogs on Sunday and was cited, Trujillo said. Trujillo said officers have since followed-up with the dogs' owner to make sure the animals are secure. Police have not released the name of the dogs' owner. This story really gets me that they did nothing about those dogs, if they killed once they will kill again and again if they get the chance. |

| Yet another sad story and the scary thing is these dogs can strike again because no one took it very seriously. I'm sitting here thinking that if Buddy killed a little dog I don't think I would want him. Does that sound terrible? I know that I could never trust him around anything and I won't live in seculsion so I guess he would have to go. How could you still trust, must less love, something that kills? I don't mean like wild animals killing for their food but a household pet killing another's pet. Very sad. My heart breaks for the owner's of the little Yorkie. To die that way is horrific. |

| My yorkies are kept inside a majority of the time, outside of walks and dog park visits, so we've never had a problem. However, my brother called me 3 days ago saying him and his buddy were walking along the sidewalk and out of nowhere a pit bull attacked his friend. My brother is a big guy, 6'3" and his friend was only 5'6" so my brother kicked the crap out of the pit until it released his friend's pant leg. Only a couple of scratches, but if that guy had been on his own there's no telling what could have happened. They called animal control, but the dog was long gone by time someone showed up. When are people going to take responsibility for their dogs?!?

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | OMG HOW HORRIBLE for that little yorkie and I can't BELIVE The dogs were returned - this is a prime example of why so many attacks happen and I firmly believe also that if they have a taste of blood - then they'll want more....What a sad story and they sure didn't handle this problem at all (the cops) Being cited ? BIG FREAKIN DEAL - they should have thousands of dollars in FINES and just maybe they'll make sure this never ever happens again |

| Those dog should have been taken from the owner and put down. Once they attack like that, they will never stop. A child may be the next victim. How horrible to have to watch your dog being killed like that. My stomach is in a big knot and I'm on the verge of tears and hate!! We need very strict laws when it comes to this type of problem, and to just "hand" over their dogs after what they did is an outrage!!! I just don't want to hear how sweet Pits can be "if only" they were raised right. That is pure BS!!! Having Pits is like having Wolves. They are unpredictable and you never know if or when they will go into prey drive. |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | That is disgusting. Why are those dogs back in the hands of their owner? It took them an HOUR to get those dogs - that says something.

| Not another Yorkie!! Misunderstood is the word for this breed. Many misunderstand the strength these dogs have when they lock their jaws on a child, adult or another dog. We have had a couple threads on this very thing lately and I know people love their dogs if they have one of these dangerous breeds but let's get real with what is happening; we only hear alittle bit of what is going on every day. Poor baby, I could cry
