Unlove

My heart goes out to the family of the Yorkie!!! My heart is broken and it did not even happen to me. Let me tell you I know someone who works for the police department here and said that there are so many incidents where pitsbulls have attacked other animals, dogs and cats, [ I will spare u the terrible details,] ithat are never reported by the news. The news media usually reports when a human is severely injured or someone child is killed. Pitbulls are a fighting breed and if u are not going to train them properly, than dont get one!! I dont think they are good house pets. ----D.W.

it could have been any breed big dog not all pitbulls are horrible i cannot stand a animal being negatively judged just because of its breed but some will never see it fairly no matter what. anyways no the dogs shouldnt have been sent home to owners who cannot control or cofine them properly pitbull or not!

What a horrific trauma for that poor family!!!
Actually I blame the owners NOT the dogs!!!! I feel VERY strong that it is the OWNERS resposibililty to train their dogs, and if they are aggressive, to take appropriate measures, which would include NOT exposing them to other people and dogs where these types of situations can occur. I CANNOT BELIEVE that certain dogs are "BAD" - I think that it is result of how the owners interact and train them. Yes, some dogs are difficult(just ask me- my baby Lexie is one of them-some of you may have read my threads in the past)
BUT part of being a responsible pet owner is training your dog and/or avoiding potentially bad situations. Why is everyone always so quick to fault the dogs and not the owners? That part I don't understand.

I believe these particular dogs are being judged because they killed a yorkie...

Honestly and without judgement, help me understand why you feel this way...does this breed not kill more domestic animals and bite and kill small children more than any other breed???

I think you misunderstood me. As a matter of fact I'm one of those who thinks pitt bulls should be banned... but that isn't the topic of this thread. Hardly anyone has mentioned anything about the fact that these 2 dogs are pitt bulls, yet the Peters argues that "it could have been any big breed dog" and goes on to say that we're being judgmental only because these dogs were pitt bulls. I disagree... I think people are disgusted because a yorkie was killed. If this yorkie was killed by a beagle, everyone would be just as upset.

Oh, I did misunderstand you. I appologize....we are on the same page then about PB's..because after this being the second in the last week and half of a PB (there is another thread here about a Yorkie being killed by one) I am disgusted with PB's. I really feel for its owner

I'm sitting here thinking that if Buddy killed a little dog I don't think I
would want him. Does that sound terrible? I know that I could never
trust him around anything and I won't live in seculsion so I guess he
would have to go. How could you still trust, must less love, something
that kills? I don't mean like wild animals killing for their food but a household
pet killing another's pet. Very sad. My heart breaks for the owner's of the
little Yorkie. To die that way is horrific.

My thoughts exactly. I could never feel the same about a dog that killed another animal like that. I have a friend who adopted a Bichon from a rescue organization. They didn't know all of his history, but he was skittish. They had two teenagers and the dog got along fine with the family, was sweet and friendly. The teenage girl had friends over a lot and one day the Bichon bit one of her friends. There wasn't any teasing or anything, he just bit her out of the blue when she approached him. It wasn't a serious bite, just broke the skin a little and didn't require a doctor's attention. The owner took it very seriously and did everything she could to keep the dog happy and calm. As time went by, he seemed to be fine, but then on another occasion he bit another friend of the family the same way. At that point, the owner began to think about what to do with the dog and kept him away from visitors. Some time later, he bit again and she immediately took him to the vet and had him euthanized. Some of her friends really put her down for euthanizing the dog and said he should have been put into rescue and given another chance. But she said she didn't want anyone else to have to deal with him and she didn't think he would ever be safe. He had been through rescue once and it would not be possible to ever place him in another home. A dog that bites is not a happy dog and I think she did the right thing. They loved the dog and the whole family was devastated. She still cries when she talks about the dog and it's been three or four years ago now. You just can't live with a dog that bites. You can't take those chances, even with a small dog. And having a dog that you can't interact with defeats the reason for having a dog. It's sad, but you have to live with the dog every day and you have to do what's best for the dog and your family.
