Default [News] Yorkie Stolen From Garden

Edinburgh, Scotland - A PEDIGREE pooch was dognapped after being left in a garden for just seconds.

Miniature Yorkshire Terrier Olly, who weighs only 3lbs, was snatched as he snoozed in his basket.

It's believed the thief will try to sell the dog, which is worth hundreds of pounds.

Owners Eleanor and James Strachan believe the dognapper acted on impulse after spotting Olly through the garden gate.

James, of Kingsknowe, Edinburgh, found Olly was gone moments after leaving him outside their conservatory.

Eleanor said: 'Someone must have spotted him through the gate in the garden and come in to take him.

'Or perhaps they planned to burgle the house but saw my husband in the kitchen and just took the dog and ran.

'I'm devastated. Olly was like a member of the family. I can't believe it's happened.'

Eleanor, 67, has put up a 'substantial reward' for her seven-year-old pet. She said: 'He is worth so much more than money to us.

'He has a very poor appetite and often I have to feed him by hand, so I am worried whoever has got him might not be able to get him to eat anything.'

A police spokesman said: 'We would appeal to anyone who may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the Kingsknowe Gardens area at Saturday lunchtime to contact police.'

SSPCA spokeswoman Doreen Graham said: 'There have been quite a few dog thefts in the last year. From a thief's point of view, dogs are a commodity - particularly pedigree dogs.

'Somebody in the area will know of someone who has a miniature Yorkshire Terrier but didn't have one a few days ago

fasteddie,,,,, I just posted a thread on tatooing your pets. Do you think tatooing will prevent a theft, or help with the return of these babies once the wouldbe thief sees the tatoo?

That's so sad. An adult dog. I will never buy a dog without checking his background. Seems like a lot of those stories are coming from Europe. I hope it's not as big a problem in the U.S.

Do you really think that a thief cares if the dog have a tattoo or not ? I never heard of a thief knocking at someone's door and telling them " Sorry , I stole your dog and saw he or she have a tattoo ".

No but it just gratens the chance of getting your baby back. When you tatoo, you register it as well. So if anyone tries to sell it or you see it with someone, you can prove it is yours. I'll do anything if it doesnt hurt Gus to insure more chances of getting him back just incase the unthinkable happens.

Wow, this is so disgusting. The poor dog is an older dog. I can't even imagine how scared and upset he is. These people make me sick.

I just hope this yorkie is returned to it's owners unharmed. I would be torn apart if Josie was ever dog-napped.

"Eleanor, 67, has put up a 'substantial reward' for her seven-year-old pet. She said: 'He is worth so much more than money to us."

Poor owners. I hope this has a happy ending.

Did anyone see anyone take the pup? I had a friend that had a small yorkie 2-3 lbs and it was carried off by an owl. The lady saw it happen. She let it out to go potty and the owl swooped down and carried it away. Just wondering?

I have heard that Yorkies are the most stolen dog by breed. I also know that a lot of people think their little dog was stolen during hawk season but in reality a hawk took it. There are all kinds of dog stolen reports around here during that tim eof year when the red hawks are in our area. So sad! I never leave my dogs outside alone and without a leash>

this nearly happened to my friends yorkie tramp a few weeks ago, she has 3 yorkies and a large garden and tramp loves to sit and watch people walk past the gate, a man in a car pulled up and leant threw the gates and tried to grab him but one of her other dogs bailey which is brother to my millie started to bark, and tramp being quite a heavy yorkie was saved as my friend ran out to see what the comotion was and saw this man trying to lift tramp threw the gate which she keeps padlocked she shouted and he dropped tramp and ran, my friend never managed to get his cars number plate but gave the description of the man and his car to the police, we live in cumbria not that car really from scotland, the police here think that the man must have been passing treats to tramp on a few occasions befor e trying to steal him as tramp usually wont go near strangers and a few days before this happened my friend had a phone call to ask if she had any piuppies left tramp is her male stud and when she said no she had no pups the lady asked her if she could use tramp as a stud for her own yorkie as she was due in season but my friend refused as she didnt know this woman or care for her attitude over the phone then a few days later this happened she told the police about it but she has not heard anything since, its absolutely terrifying when you think about it the police here told my friend that tramp may have been wanted for breeding purposes or they said other sinister carrying ons such as dog fighting apparently theres been a few thefts of dogs ( not all yorkies) for baiting fighting dogs this is absolutely terrible and i never leabve my dogs out in the garden unattended anymore, thank god fir my friends high gate and padlock and of course little bailey who alerted her to this man tring to steal his big brother, tramp is my male yorkie max's dad and they look very much alike... i havent heard about ollies case and i hope to goodness they have him back now or that someone has been caught for dognapping him, its really sad and distressing for both ollie and his mom and dad my prayers will be for them all to be reunited soon hugs janis millie & ,max

Yeah, I believe it. My aunt has a 3 lb female, gorgeous dog... anyhow, they were at the store and she got out to get a soda from the machine, and heard Faith carrying on, so she turned around and there was a gentleman on the other side of he rcar trying to coax her out. People have no morals.
