| i am really glad i live in germany. the law here does not alow any pet stores!!! selling dogs( no docked tails or ears, witch is a different conversation) witch i am glad of, the usa needs to put up a law saying the same. i breed since 8 years. no kennels or locked into any seperet places or rooms. my dogs live with us in our house. sleep in beds and have the happy life all animals should have. i say do not buy at pet stores dogs! maybe one day they will have to close down because of no customers. it is heart braking to see such places. if a person decides to be a breeder do it the right way. no cages or kennels. have a nice sized house and give good sozialistion. play and love the dogs and puppys. pet land should not be selling any dogs! but the fact is since the us has no laws saying no, they will go on and sell the next sick puppy. all breeders know parvo is resistent for 1 year. in the the place and around the place the sick dog came from and lived. not even bleechwater will kill parvo. so fact is all other pups sold at that time or before might carry it or get sick and die. or infect a other dog! terrible, makes me real sad, mad and makes me cry! |

my dogs live a great life without kennels or cages.. fencing is a necessity but, you do need the right house and all the equipment to properly care for, protect, and nurture our furbabies. it is the petstores selling dogs that are the problem.. we have only one petstore selling dogs... there are many good pet stores that will not sell dogs. petsmart has rescue cats, shelter cats offered, and are well cared for. we just need to inform the public about the puppy mills. there are too many people that just dont know about it.. i believe something will be done to stop the puppy mills. american lawmakers must stop these petstores from supporting puppy mills we need to force the petstores to give oput the breeders names and addresses, fire all the inspectors, and get honest ones.. i feel like picketting.. maybe print fliers to put on the cars in the parking lot of this petstore.. ![]() | |

| I unfortunately worked at a Petland in ohio as a Kennel Tech for a short period of time. There is no doubt that I am now completely disgusted with the store. Petland is a chain of stores, some are coperate stores while others are franchises. I worked at a franchise store and the management was horrible. The duty of a Kennel Tech was to take care of the dogs & cats; feeding/water, grooming/bathing, giving medications instructed by our vet and recording any signs of illness while also reporting them to the Kennel Tech manager. I loved working at the store but I couldnt handle the mistreatment of the dogs. Whenever I saw a sign of any illness, whether it be a disease or sickness due to genetics or worst of all parvo, I reported it immediately to my careless Kennel Manager. They ignored when a dog could barely breath due to coughing or when a dogs stool was purely nothing but blood. Many times I reported bloody stool, kennel cough, symptoms of parvo or birth defects from genetics and it was rudely ignored. I did everything I could for the health of the puppies I looked over, but the management cared more about the profit they made off of the pup rather than its health. Within the short period of time I worked there, roughly 5+ puppies suffered a death from parvo [due to the symptoms being looked over]. Also, a puppy was sent home sick and died the next morning. It is completely unethical how a puppies innocent life is treated as a product for profit. If you are currently looking for a puppy, do not buy from Petland. |

| Colette, welcome to YT! Thank you for sharing your story. How difficult it must have been for you to work at Petland and to see those things happening to those sweet innocent animals. It is so sick how the mighty dollar means so much to people. FYI - to those following this thread -- I do believe in the next week or so this TV station is doing a follow up store on this horrid Iowa Petland store - when they do we will update this thread.
