| [News]Man gets 8 years for stealing pups at gunpoint http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22598058/ Man gets 8 years for stealing pups at gunpoint 2007 Los Angeles dognapping was caught on surveillance video updated 5:24 p.m. CT, Thurs., Jan. 10, 2008 LOS ANGELES - A man who stole purebred Yorkshire terrier puppies at gunpoint was sentenced Thursday to eight years in prison. Troy Cabral sobbed as he was sentenced in Superior Court. He pleaded guilty in November to robbery with use of a gun and assault with a firearm in the Feb. 23 holdup. Cabral's attorney, James P. Cooper III, said the sentence "was appropriate considering the allegation of gun use." Prosecutors said Cabral, 24, and Ryan Betton, 19, went to the Wilshire-area home of a family that had advertised the puppies for sale at $2,500 each. They said they wanted to see the puppies, then returned later and rushed inside when the door was opened. They ordered the residents to the floor at gunpoint and stuffed three puppies and an adult dog into garbage bags before fleeing. Cabral and Betton turned themselves in after surveillance camera footage of the theft aired on television. The dogs were later recovered. Betton was sentenced to two years in prison in December after pleading guilty to robbery. © 2008 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. | Great to hear the puppies are ok. They deserved the amount of time they did get. The sentences should be just as much for people who killed dogs.

| Eight years because they used a gun in the theft. Good! maybe this will discourage this type of theft. It was only an animal=$$ to them. I'd be discouraged to advertise puppies specially yorkies wich are so targeted |

| This is Sukoshi's breeder that they robbed, so I am MORE than happy to hear they got what they deserved! I talked to Kelly (the breeder) after it all happened (we'd already gotten Sukoshi from them at that point), and she was so upset. She said they had just installed the surveillance cameras only 10 days before these guys robbed them! Talk about good timing! |

| I agree that the "sobs" were probably not out of "oh, what did I do to those poor pups or the family I terrorized" but, more of what he just did to his future! I'm a firm believer...do the crime-do the time ps. those pups are so dang cute!

| No - They got them all back and they weren't hurt, but I think most traumatic for them was that they stole their family Yorkie too. She is tiny, and in the heat of the moment, they probably thought she was a puppy too (or didn't care...just grabbing what they could get their hands on), but the family wasn't as attached to the puppies...but their family pet ??? They're lucky they got them all back!! |

| Yay! I always wondered what was going to happen to them. I know 1 puppy wasn't ever recovered. What happened to him/her? I don't know why the news keep saying that the breeders were charging $2,500 per puppy...

| Hmmmm...don't know. Kelly told me they got them all back. I too wondered why they were saying they charged $2,500 for them, as I didn't even pay 1/2 that for Sukoshi! I figured the news media just got that part wrong ??? |

| I think the news is making it worse for pricing them so high.

| I saw this on the news and I was so angry and scared. People are truly evil! Those poor little babies, and image how those people felt. I am so glad he was convicted except he should've got a longer sentence. I am so glad those cute little puppies are safe and back home....

| You got Sukoshi from Worldkennelusa, correct? Some of their prices for the pups are $2,500. I guess it's for the tinies...
