| Hormone Injection Can someone find out about the side effects of the horone injection that is given at 6 months and acts like a neutering except no operation but just the njection? What are the drawbacks and long term side effects. What is the name of this medicine? |

| I have heard that shot was very riskey, I thought he was already sheduled to be netured, I also beleive the shot has to be done by a vet.

| i have never in my life ever heard of a hormone shot for a male dog. not only that but you seem to want your dogs to act like little humans. Sorry, but they are dogs and only doing what comes natural. |

I know that you can give male dogs a female hormone that is suppose to reduce aggression and anxiety but it is in a pill form and most vets do not use it anymore due to the risks. Even then, it is only used as a last resort. I would never give it to a puppy. I have never heard of a shot.

No, he is only 5 and I dont want to do anything that can harm him, the injection used here is like a castration except the testicles remain and the hormones are stopped. I prefer to do this method now and wait for later when heis fully developed before cutting. I was just FRUSTRSTED and stressed when I made that last thread, have had more time to think clearly now.

Maybe where I live they are more into saving and keeping animals in tact and not cropping ears, tails and removing body parts for STYLE like back in the USA where dog's are not priority. Dogs are treated as humans here where I live. I will ask the vet what the medicine is as he said is is reversable if they want to have babies. So it cant be bad. It is not a hormone per se but to stop the hormones, vet said it is safe but I thought it was used there but I guess not. No need to BADGER ME AND REDICULE ME. Not becuase some of you dont know about it menas it is BAD

I do know the medication you are talking about I've just never heard of it in a shot form. I suspect you are referring to Deslorelin which is actually more expensive than neutering and is typically only used when you are wanting to breed the dog in the future. And it IS a hormone which blocks testosterone production. It is an implant that is inserted under the skin like a microchip and releases hormones. I read up on this medication in animal science research journals when Tucker was having problems. It is not approved for use in the USA, more research needs to be done. Neutering is safer than this medication which can be deadly if not used properly and increases their chances for cancer. 5 months old is not too young to neuter a puppy. In fact, the BEST age to neuter a male dog is between 5-6 months to prevent male behavioral problems from becoming learned behavior so what you are saying makes no sense. So I have done my research. Best of luck in your decision.

| Its called chemical castration and is something that is often done to showdogs as they cannot be neutered. As far as i'm aware there are no known long term side effects. However, don't rely on it to solve your problems, the only thing that han do that is love, patience and appropriate positive training. Where are you? Here in the UK vets will neuter dogs at 6 months, but not before. |
