| Excessive urinating - RC Hepatetic LS 14 Hello everyone, My pup is 5 months old and I changed her to a diet for liver shunt recently. I give her 2/3 of cups a day of the Royal Canin Hepatetic LS14 and she is still mega hungry... She shakes when she sees me eat other foods... She is always around the kitchen to see if she could find food! Also is 125 ml a day for drinking is too much for a 3 pound dog? She eats only dry food. Also she started going urinating every hour and a half, is that a lot. At night she can go around 4 hours without going? She also makes quite big spots... but they are of normal color... I feel discourage as she has been sick for the past 3 weeks... it's becoming really hard on me... any help would be appreciated. I'm starting to ask myself what did I get into... even though I love this little thing.... Thanks

| Royal Canin has less calories per piece, I believe. What does the bag say to give her? If she is really that hungry and not chubby, I would feed her.

| Hello Ellie May. THanks for your reply. I decided Yesterday to mix the dry food with Hill's LD formula. She seemed to really like it. For today I will split in three portions her meal. She is doing great besides that she has a few looses tooths... It's funny! How is your baby? DId you get the results? I saw you on the Yahoo group. I hope you will have good news... By the way, did your pup had any symptoms that led you to do all the testing? Mine has no symptoms now that she is getting better... I'm still thinking she had a bad Pancreatitis... Thanks

| Aww, thanks for asking. Ellie had a UTI that we couldn't get rid of this summer (it took two tries which is one to many in my book). She had a reaction to a vaccine last year. She has also always been very skinny but eats very well. I have not gotten the biopsy results back yet. I am guessing I will get them in a week or two. She may not have a liver problem at all. Maybe the bile acids were up because of stress or something. This should be interesting. I am SO happy that the vet did the biopsy though (she actually though about doing it for the first time in the middle of Ellie's spay so she had a tech call us). Talk about having to make a split second decision. What a relief to get it over with though. When are you retesting your baby's bile acids?

| I can't wait for you to have your results... its so stressful! How old is Ellie? Well we want to wait until she is much better. She is doing so well right now. Things are getting back to normal except she got teeth falling out! So I was thinking end of November or beginning of December. I want her system to be cleaned out... But I fear this test, I almost sometimes feel to not do it if she is ok. But I know this is not the way to go! She has no symptoms for now... Her system is getting back on track. I was looking at the Pancreatitis symptoms and they are all the same... so it could have been only that... Anyway, good things its not my kids... i'd be out of my mind! What do you feed Ellie for now?

| Ellie is six-years-old and is being fed Dr. Dodd's liver cleansing diet with egg instead of cod. I consulted with a nutritionist the other day and will be getting some recipes.

| Well for a liver shunt, I thought you would have signs before no? Could it be an acquired shunt instead? Mine is doing really well and everything went back to normal. She seems quite healthy. She gained her weight back and she is very active. I really really hope it was just a pancreatitis! Let me know when you get the results...

| Well they only did a pre meal test and the number was 31. They didn't do a post test. She had been sick for the previous 5 days with no food, she was on IV and with antibiotics... She had her bile duct canal unblock in the operation on Saturday. She was stressed out from being sick and also a bit depress! She started being sick on the Tuesday morning and they did the bile test on the next monday. She had been on IV with Antibiotics since the Friday. I brought her home on the Tuesday with her IV. She slept with me for the whole night. She cuddle me as she was searching for warmt. The next day it was a different dog. She needed Tender Love and Care at that point. My vet said she presents the symptoms but she had all the symptoms from a severe Pancreatitis also. Lots of people told me the pre test could have been wrong. The bile duct often release an excess amount of bile when it has been on a no food diet for a long period... And the pancreas was quite inflammed... Anyway, I will wait and see but for now she has been recuperating very well and shows no signs or symptoms of Liver Shunts... She is not a picky eater, she started eating everything again. But I watch closely her diet. She is on a low protein diet (Royal Canine) for now until I do the test again. Also dogs with Liver Shunt have problems eliminating Anastesia and she actually did really well with the operation. But let me tell you, I can't wait to do the test again... it really stresses me out!

| I don't think it sounds like a shunt at all, I'm not a vet though. The antibiotics along could have made the number go up. I would just relax (I know easier said than done) and retest.

| Yes I know, I need to relax and enjoy her... but Bikini is my first dog ever. I've been wanting her for the last 10 years. She was my 30th birthday present! It really scared me when she got sick. But it was after the Thanksgiving weekend that she started being sick. We had lots of peole over for the weekend and tons of food around. I think she just ate too much or some people snuck food under the table. I caught my uncle giving her a piece of sausage once (that is quite bad food)... and he was there that weekend We get to really love these lovable furbaby She has such a great character. She is 5 months and fully housetrained since 4 months. After her surgery I thought I would need to restart again, but no, she went strait to the door! By the way, she drinks normal amount of water now and have an ok flow of urine. I think she was just recuparating from her being sick. Right now, she is loosing her teeth, its funny she has none in the front. She sticks out her tongue between it... Have you heard about the liver biopsy for Ellie? Would Ellie have an acquired shunt?

| No results yet. I don't think she has a shunt at all. Her numbers are too low. I am guessing MVD or stress the day of the test. Ellie had to have some of her adult teeth pulled so she is missing her front ones permentantly.

| What were your numbers again for your Bile Acid Test? Stress can cause Bile Acid the elevate?

| Yes, I believe stress can. There are a few other things that can rarely cause it to elevate also. Ellie's first test was premeal: 4.1 and post: 47. Her second test was premeal: 10 and post:15.8.

| Wow it can vary from one time to another... I will let you know once I get my results... I will go probably in a month... when she has evacuated everything from her system! Let me know once you have your results, I'm curious. In the meantime, I hope Ellie is doing well
