| Signs of heat exhaustion?? Harley hasn't been acting normal. He usually jumps all over you, and now he just acts sluggish. No vomitting, just a little loose stool. His nose is wet, gums are normal. Just isn't his mega hyper self. I haven't been letting them stay out ar long b/c of the heat, but, what are signs of heat exhaustion?

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I have a three year old who hasn't LEFT the puppy phase...the chewing on my fingers stopped but other than that Chanel is a HUGE puppy at heart ! I hope your baby feels better - sometimes they just get like we do - tummy aches etc and then are just fine in 12-24 hours and we don't know what was really wrong - I agree on the heat stroke/exhauston - you would see BIG red flags if your puppy was experiencing it.... |

| Heat exhaustion can come on quickly and proceed rapidly to heat stroke and death. Make sure to drink plenty of water. Not to be gross, but urine should be almost clear. When urine is dark yellow that could be a sign that you need to increase your fluids. Early Signs of Heat Stroke in dogs: Rapid breathing, dry mouth and nose, rapid heart rate, vomiting and gums that leave their healthy colour for dull, greyish-pink, or red, are all early stages of heat stroke. At this point, you can usually cool him down by giving him ice cubes to lick (cold water will upset his stomach worse and hasten dehydration), sponging him down with a wet towel, and letting him lie in front of a fan. In extreme cases, after the previous symptoms manifest themselves, his gums will take on a grayish tinge, then his tongue will turn blue, then he'll lose consciousness. Take immediate action! Immerse him in cold water or hose him down with a gentle but soaking spray and direct that fan on him. Get his body temperature down first, then call your vet!
