| Yorkie Puppy with Heart Diagnosis-HELP I purchased a Yorkie back on Memorial Day weekend. I got him from a Kennel/Breeders Association and I just fell in love instantly. He was only in the shelter for two days according to his records. So, we brought him home... what a love. He is thriving well (although extremely hyper) and shows no signs of a problem. He even had a case of giardia when we got him home and had no signs. Dropped him off to the vet to get Neutered last week and they called to tell me that the procedure cannot be done. He had a 1/6 heart murmur and he has an enlarged heart. I am heartbroken..... is this very serious ??? I have been reading Yorkies do live with this and it is common in these dogs. I am so sad and yet so very annoyed that the Breeders did not find any of these issues prior to me taking him home... Any advice is appreciated. Buddys mom.. |

| My Hokule'a has a grade 4/5 heart murmur but is doing well - she is 10 months now and we will do another ultrasound at 1 year to see how it is progressing. My breeder gave me Kalani as a replacement pup but I am hoping that Hoku proves the doctors wrong and lives a long and healthy life

| Glad to hear that your dog is doing well with the murmur. I am sure my Buddy will also. I think that my concern is mostly that he has the Enlarged Heart as well as the murmur. Today he will do a sonogram and see the cardiologist.... let's see what they say. Thanks for your input... Buddys mom |

| How old is buddy? Sometimes puppies will have a low grade heart murmur that disappear as they get older.

| We've had two gals on another forum I belong to have puppies diagnosed with heart murmurs recently. They both went to cardiologists and one was told her puppy had an "innocent" heart murmur that he would outgrow. I guess it's not uncommon in puppies to develop a heart murmur during a growth spurt that will close on its own. I adopted Lady at age four and she was diagnosed with a grade 1 heart murmur. Grade 1 is the mildest. She'll be twelve in a couple of months and it has never gotten any worse. Grade 1's like your puppy has can be hard to hear which is why the breeder's may have missed it. You should take him to a cardiologist, though, to find out exactly what you are dealing with. One of the puppies I mentioned does have more serious problems (he was actually passing out during walks) and has to be on medication. |

| I'll say prayers that it's something your pup can grow out of.

| My yorkie had a heart murmur when he got him and he was between 4-6 months old and then it went away all of a sudden. I will pray for your baby...

| Thanks for the prayers..... Turns out the Sonogram ruled out the enlarged heart (thank goodness). He just has a round and full looking heart. The murmur was noted as a 2/6 and I am hoping we will just outgrow it.... yippie Now I can work on more fun chats like "how do yorkies like walking in the snow"? LOL....... |

| do not worry!!! Monday has an enlarged heart and a 1/6 heart murmur and she is just fine .... In fact in June she had a teeth cleaning and she was put under anesthesia with no problem at all ... she had a baseline echo when we found out and she is doing okay. I mean NO medicine or anything .... so I hope I have helped ease your mind .....
