| I would also wonder about WHY the rat was dead........... if it was into rat poison, you definitely don't want your dogs near it. ALSO, if it was poison, make sure that it isn't anywhere that they can get into it!!!! No lectures!!!......... you are doing what we all would do.... inquire and try to do the best thing for your Yorkies! Hope all goes well and nothing comes from that nasty RAT!! All the Best......

| Rats do not contract nor carry rabies. You should still get your dog vaccinated though, since lots of other common critters can.

| oh thanks pennys thats a relief! i called animal control about picking it up and they said they dont do that, nor do they test them. she said i could call the police and ask them to pick it up, but how mad would that make an officer to come to your house and pick a dead rat for you? my husbands at work, and he was alseep when i found it so he hasnt picked it up yet and i dont want in the back yard anymore i think it was posioned and died in my backyard..this thing gives me the willys its at least a foot long not including all of its tail....its freakin me out. i dont have any trash around my yard, the only thing i can figure is someone else has them and is trying to get rid of them, posioned it and it died on my back porch..yuk! |

| What if you get a shovel and your garbage can, and shovel him in. Just so gross. Then when hubby gets home from work he can dispose of him somewhere.

| Yuck! What a dilemma! I wouldn't want to have it sit all day on my porch waiting for my husband to get home, but I don't think I could do anything with a jumbo rat, either! As for the police, I wouldn't think they would (or would want to) come out. Probably have other stuff to do. Good luck!

| thats what i figured with the police having so much opther pressing matters, a pregnant woman calling in about picking up a dead rat seems frivolous to me |
