| Stitch has fleas - Frontline/Revolution not working Hey all - We're out here working in the woods of Alabama, and Stitch is having a pretty bad flea problem. In the past 6 weeks, he's been given 2 doses of Frontline and 1 dose of Revolution, and I'm still finding 6-10 fleas on him every couple of days that I have to pick off. I'm too scared of overdosing him to give him any more treatments...I bathe him every 5-6 days in flea shampoo and am worried that more bathing will dry out his already irritated skin... What is there left to do? Ideas for my itchy Stitchy? |

| It sounds like you might have fleas in your house...If there are fleas in your house, he's going to keep having fleas jump on him. You need to treat your house/yard...In the house, you can use Borax...sprinkle it all over the carpets covering all of it, leave it on there for a day, and then vacuum it up. This is a non-toxic way to do it that actually works. Also, you might leave a little borax in places where your dog can't get to like behind the couch or something like that. I would stop using the flea shampoo as he's probably getting way too much anti-flea chemicals in his body already. You can use regular dawn dish soap to kill the fleas. Just bathe her in a little dawn and it will kill the fleas, but it won't keep fleas from jumping on her....So you should treat the house/yard first. She's probably itchy from all the chemicals too...

| fleas I use Zodiac flea and tick spray, shampoo, and apholstery products. They work very well. I havent seen any side effects on the dogs either. I had a flea problem last year and after about 1 month, I was flea free. Good luck, Lynn |

| Have you waited 3 days after bathing to apply the flea control? Or, have you waited at least three days after applying it to bathe him again? Those products work with the oil in the dog's system and if you've just bathed them, it won't work. I learned that lesson the hard way myself. Almost forgot - try to use a non-detergent shampoo, that helps also. The flea shampoo you're using may be stripping off the product. Last edited by ChestersMom; 08-25-2007 at 04:20 AM. |

| I think I saw on another post that someon said to use Eucalyptus(sp???) oil on them. It is natural. I would do an online search of natural products for flea control.

| Thanks to all who replied. This is what I've done the last few days: * Bathed him in Dawn detergent instead of the flea shampoo * Bought a flea comb and have been using that regularly - caught 2 fleas in it today, so I suppose that's an improvement from before * Started giving him brewer's yeast and garlic tablets as a supplement We have mostly hardwoods here, but I will buy some Borax and use it on the few carpeted areas. He seems to be somewhat less itchy, so I hope it's working. I'll let some more weeks go by before I start using Revolution on him again (still scared of overdosing him), and this time, I'll be sure to wait a few days after a bath to apply. Thanks for the tips! |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Don't forget that fleas can get in your couch...basically anywhere! Try not taking him out for walks in the woods but in a small area in your backyard and treat the yard with granules and sprays allowing to completely dry before letting your dog out. Good luck!

| Put Seven Dust on him, and everything else you can outside. It's safe for dogs, and does a good job. I don't know about inside without bombing??

| I stopped using Frontline Plus and started using K9 Advantix. Maybe just switching brands would help? Duke was still itching a lot w/ the FP, now he barely does w/ the Advantix. If you are going to stick w/ Frontline though, make sure you're giving Frontline Plus and not Frontline Top Spot. Frontline Plus is better at breaking the cycle than the Frontline Top Spot. You could also try the Capstar tablets to help for a little bit. They are about $3 a pill though and the pills are active for 24 hours. It's a quick kill though and helps while you clean your home, anytime you have to wait because you just bathed, etc.
